My husband also skied at school with those sort of bindings but I learnt a lot later when I was 40 cos I didn't fancy it before. Now of course I wish I'd learnt when I was younger. Now I'm a young at heart 51, not a great skier but got around the Bansko runs OK. In fact I did better than the other half this year as he kept complaining that he was not skiing well and he should be much better than me. Skied on my own a couple of times as a result. Won't be held back by anyone.
I wish now that I learnt years ago but Ian worked in education so we had to go away in school holidays and with three kids really couldnt afford to go abroad for two holidays a year. Now there is just the two of us we can do what we like. I am in my 51st year as well and am prepared to try anything. I was a little worried whether my knees would cope with skiing and did actually twist it so missed last days skiing, but did Bansko Road on 2nd day and blue 5 by 4th so I was quite pleased with ...

I was a little worried whether my knees would cope with skiing and did actually twist it so missed last days skiing, but did Bansko Road on 2nd day and blue 5 by 4th so I was quite pleased with myself. Looking foward to next year already especially as I have just been editing the photos.
I had a spectacular crash on 5 with a Bulgarian lady skier. I did it in the afternoon and it was very cut up and lumpy. Suddenly she was there in front of me and I dived over the top of her and ended face down in the snow!! Ooooh it was cold on my nose. Both skis came off and my sunglasses. Escaped unhurt and she was OK too so no harm done. This was one of the times I was skiing on my own but I was OK to continue so it didn't matter.
When I fell and twisted my knee I was on a gentle slope on Bansko Road but I wasnt concentrating on the skiing I was too busy looking up at all the snow on the trees and how wonderful it looked and how absolutely silent it was.
Yes I agree its very pretty skiing down through the trees.
Last year we were in Banff Canada and at the Lake Louise ski area there is a similar route down. Again we had loads of snow and the trees looked lovely.
Memories, memories. I want to go skiing again now!!
