Traditional food in Borovets

Is it possible to try traditional bulgarian food in Borovets? or I have to go to Samokov village?
Can anyone give some examples of traditional bulgarian food here?

Calvin quite a few restaurants do traditional BG food in Boro. They are usually meaty and cheesey in pots/dishes. My favourite in Boro is the Titanic special, they even set it alight so it is definitely hot Very Happy Very Happy

For traditional bulgarian food and at "traditional" bulgarian prices, i would always tell people to go to Samokov. Even with the taxi fare down to the town, you will pay FAR LESS than you will in Borovets and the food will be much better ! I took guests to a traditional Mexana last night in Mala Tserkva, fantastic night, excellent food and service. 13 adults, two children, drinks, starters and some of us even had pudding - total bill 268 leva !!!!!!!!!

re: Traditional food in Borovets

Just got back from Borovets, we ate out every night. One night we went down to Samakov town to the 'Old House' restaurant. It was traditonally Bulgarian, the food was gorgeous. The bill was half the price of our usual evening meals and we ordered far too much because we wanted to try so many things!

It was alot cheaper even including the taxi fares. We are definatley doing to eat out in Samakov more often in the future.

old house is great, your right borogirl? their is also kokushkova kushta, sonatas, the castle and if you want a busy italians try bonitas, all in samokov at mostly have the price of borovets. worth the 15 lev taxi each way. Kevin - I like Kushta too but prefer the oldie worldie charm of the Old House and seeing the church lit up at night Very Happy

There are also some good ones down in the square but can't remember the names, you don't normally need to book for them, whilst it's best to for Old House and Kushta. Never tried Bonitas but will do next time, just seems a waste to eat Italian in Bulgaria Exclamation Very Happy

re: Traditional food in Borovets

Hi Steff,
Mala Tsjerkva is not in Samokov, it's a small village from samokov up to ( direction ) Mallovitsa. Glad you liked it there.
Kevin, kokuskova kushte ( "the ckicken house" ) is also nice, but one of the more expensive restaurants in Samokov.
There's a new rest. - next to the 'sport palace" in Samokov, called "chatrata" ( the hut ). Good ( basic) food and drinks, low prices, friendly staff.
Borogirl, I also have blue spots on my head after visiting the toilets down Starata Kushte.
