Hi, Can anybody tell me, if you fly to Bulgaria independently and book your hotel seperately, do you need an entry visa. I e-mailed the Bulgarian embassy last week but am still waitng for a reply. Many thanks Mal
We did just that last year and didn't require anything different to any one travelling with a Tour Operator. You will be issued with a white piece of paper by your hotel which should be kept safely until you exit the country as it confirms you have been a holiday visitor and lets you get out!!
I'm assuming you hold a British passport of course.
so the thing is that you get a visa, if you come to Bulgaria it is marked in your passport, but the other thing is you need a paper, which is from or for the imagrant police, in which was written where you are, and where you could found.
If you haven't this paper, some officiers at the airport stress you and want some money, in law is written 200 lev, 20 will be fine, because nobody tell you that you need it. This paper is written by the hotel, or you have to contact the ...

This paper is written by the hotel, or you have to contact the police station that you stay there for this time, or find some one who will make you guest for any hotel, for 20 lev.

Any other questions , feel free to ask.

Same point I was trying to make Kel but couldn't remember if you paid for a visa as we have also been to Turkey recently and you did pay there. Stop now else I will confuse everyone!!
Hi just incase anyone isn't staying in a hotel, could be you have hired an apartment independantly, you have to go to the local police station and they will issue the same sort of document. It used to be that you had to register within 48 hours but thats now extended to 5 days I think but obviously the sooner the better just to be safe.
To Ellie, Kel and Lox- Man thanks for all your help on this one, have now sorted the flights out via Prague from Manchester and have contacted a Bansko hotel for Feb 2006. As the saying goes on this forum only about 338 sleeps to go. Thanks again everyone Mal
