If you were thinking of using mobile phones to stay in touch with others in the resort then consider using walkie talkies.
They work brilliant over the mountains and once you have purchased them (I got my 2 with 8 mile radius on e bay for £24) they will cost you nothing other than batteries every now and then.
I also use mine at home when taking the dogs out for a walk -- Angie.. I'm 5 minutes away - get the kettle on!
Great for keeping in touch with your kids on the mountain too ...

You need to make sure your phone is freed up by your supplier for international use. This only need to be done once and just takes a quick call to them to sort. The cheapest way is to buy a local SIM card on arrival. If you use your own card then any incoming calls from the UK will be charged at a very high rate to your phone.
I have walkie talkies but wans't sure if you were allowed to use them in bansko?
According to the instructions they're not allowed in some countries because they use the same frequency for things like emergency services, but it didn't say which countries!?!
Do you know any more detail on this or if it's even true? I guess if you've used them before PP then they are ok?
Used walkie talkies last year to keep in touch with the kids, them telling me when their class was nearly finished and i could ski down back for them. (or come out of the bar on a couple of occassions!)
