Bought a few cheap walkie talkies a few years ago but the reception was so bad and unrelieable we binned them. now we just take un-locked mobile phones over with us, buy local sim cards which are great value and bobs your uncle. I reckon spending a bit more would get you good walkie talkies but then again it would be a good few skiing hollidays before it became cost effective compared to the sim cards, and thats before they start getting lost somewhere. Just got my 2 kids a set of 2 walkies each. They are ment to be able to receive upto about 3 kilometres! Also are waterproof.
I'm hoping that the 4 of us can stay in contact!!
I'll have to learn how they work though. Maybe mobiles will come too!
We took walkie-talkies to Pamps last year but as we were first timers, we were never more than 100yds from each other anyway so most of the time we just shouted to each other!
Maybe we'll get a bit more use out of them this time around
We bought some Motorola ones on ebay which have an 18 mile range on high power and only cost £30 including the postage. Used them in Pamps last year and could contact the wife (who was in the Orlevetz) whilst I was on the slopes.
The only thing to be careful of is that it is illegal to use them on high power in Bulgaria
