I want to take my family to Bulgaria for a weeks ski but I have been told that the skiing is very basic and we would be bored after a day .... i cant believe that so thought i would ask those in the know/snow
The skiing is to everyones standard in bulgaria. It can be boring depending on the level you are looking for but the ski school is fab and the instructors are all very nice
Also, as u know there are 3 resorts, different sizes and slopes and also some are better suited to family skiing and some better suited to advanced. Its up to you-but personally i love pamporovo-because of all the extras not just the skiing. I wouldn't class that resort as too basic but it is not as testing as france ...

Happy deciding!!
If you talk to ski snobs, then they do look down their nose at Bugaria bit - it is a definitely different experience, as you are in a country that is coming to terms with capitalism after many years of communism. If you arrive at Plovidiv airport, then you will see the very basic side of Bulgaira, and the initial bus ride into the Rudopes is hardly pictureseque! BUT don't let that put you off - the skiing in Pamporovo (the only resort I have visited) is brilliant for beginners, and the ski ...

BUT don't let that put you off - the skiing in Pamporovo (the only resort I have visited) is brilliant for beginners, and the ski school is excellent. The ski runs very from basic to challenging, but there is not a huge number of runs. But if you are beginners, Pamps may suit you for several years as you progress. Or Bansko, with its much bigger ski area may be better if you are beginners. Best of all, Bulgaria is very affordable. The night life is good, with a mainly British/Irish crowd. It may not be the most sophisticated of countries, but it has a charm and everyone has a great time. I am sure that other members may have their views on resorts, but we'll all say the same about the skiing- BULGARIA ROCKS!
Hi Chris, We have only been to Bansko so far so can'r really comment on the other resorts but it is fab. We have been skiing about five times now so we are intermediates I would say and there were plenty of runs to keep me and my hubbie entertained, actually some of them were quite hard reds I think compared to some of the resorts in Austria. For us now we would definitely pick Bansko over any of the other resorts as it is so reasonably priced and has so much charm and is beautiful, hope ...

Well i have been a skier now for 19 years and of the last 7 we have been going to Borovets and the 3 years before thast to Pamps. I have skied all over Europe and have never been to anywhere as charming and as friendly as Bulgaria, this is why i keep going back! The two resorts in Bulgaria i have been too are both excellent and you cannot possibly get bored. Pamps maybe more suited to family skiing but Borovets also proves to be a good family spot. The majority of Bulgarians are extremely welcoming and friendly, food and drink is cheap, nightlife good, plus there are plenty of things to keep to entertained. Whichever resort you do choose you are guaranteed to have a fantastic holiday.
I'm going to offer a kind of "yes, but..." response here. It really does depend on what kind of skiing you want. If you want 100's of KM of piste (a la 3 Valleys) then Bulgaria is not the place for you. If you want polished clean resorts and world class food, then again Bulgaria is not the place. And if you want hugely challenging off-piste skiing, again look else where.

However, if you're looking for somewhere that is relatively cheap, has some very good pisted runs (but not 100's of km of them, but enough if you’re prepared to ski some runs twice in a week) and is populated with some very friendly people then it is worth a look. Ultimately it is cheap for a reason, but if you can live with those reasons then you will have a whale of a time. From my point of view if I had unlimited cash I would go else where, but as I don't then Bulgaria offers a very good destination at a very good price.
I personally like Borovets best and if you're an experienced skiier here or Bansko will be your best bet.
