What is the strangest food you have eaten in Bulgaria

Looking down the menu in BG there are some interesting foods eg Goose lungs.

Just wondered if anybody had tried anything strange or ordered something and didn't get what they expected.

Too much of a wuss myself but I did have a really weird pizza at Chanove in Pamporovo with honey on it. Surprised

I did not order it but got given a national dish in Velingrad was told I "had" to try it before I went home, it consisted of a lot of cabbage something that resembled uncooked black pudding, a lot of different meats... and as ever luke warm, luckily there was enough cabbage to hide the meat under to make it look like I had eaten more than I had Very Happy I did try it though Very Happy

Goose lungs is a bad translation of the perfectly acceptable goose liver - I've never seen poultry lungs here, although a fair amount more of the animal is eaten than in the UK. Try pigs or calves brains. A whole roast pig comes with the head on and the brains nicely steamed in the skull. Break it open and dig in, lovely and creamy with a taste like kidneys/liver. Then pull open the jaw and take out the tongue - you'll have to peel it, but its cracking. And amusing to watch your fellow ...

Ordered a cheese & ham toastie - got boiled potatoes, peas and carrots?

Also ordered eggs & bacon - got Nachos!

Try it at 10am after a skinful the night before, actually was very good.

Mmm, breakfast in a Bansko mountain restaurant.
