re:When Will The Tour Companies Ever Learn??

Pete, I think the lack of people is more down to the airlines. The airfare to Bulgaria has increased quite significantly over the years.

I think more people wanting a ski holiday in Pamporovo are now "doing it themselves" and not using travel/tour companies so they can fly into Plovdiv and have the shorter transfer.

Hope you enjoy your week Smile

I think when I 1st started coming here I used to use Crystal or Inghams. Neither I believe still offer Borovets. I used to go with mates and usually during the last two weeks of Jan, it never really cost me more than £300 so a tour company was easy to use and cheap enough. My circumstances changed and I gained a couple of stepsons and produced a new child and introduced them all to skiing and had to start going during half term. My circumstances changed and I gained a couple of stepsons and produced a new child and introduced them all to skiing and had to start going during half term. My last trip with Inghams cost me nearly £4000 (5 people inc ski packs) and that was only half board at the Iglika. I felt significantly ripped off and have since made all my own arrangements. There are many regulars over the half term week, some people I have known now for 5 or 6 years, they nearly all sort out their own accom and flights etc. It says a great deal for the pricing structure of the tour operators as all these people used to travel with one.

You are also right regarding BG promoting itself. I keep seeing in the Metro advertised some music/ski festival happening somewhere in the French Alps. However I also see that the same event is happening in Bansko but no adverts anywhere. I guess it could be the promoters but why no promo for Bansko. The Metro happened to have a piece on Bulgaria recently but hardly anybody knows about it as a place to ski.

I had to go to Bansko for a day trip last year but would love to go to Seven Lakes for example or if it were worth a day trip to Viitosha to get a bit of variety but other than the Bansko to Boro day trips there is nothing on offer

re:

someone i was talking to said its about 'routing' and where the planes are used, but if you look at the cost of BA and Easyjet and Wizz the costs have risen considerably so I would suggest that theres definitely room for another 'player' in there. Were off on the 2nd gambled with booking flights before xmas for this one, look at them now!! ouch we had some more racers wanted to come with us but the flight costs are ridiculous!

re:

I can go by my own experience and my airfares have not increased over the past four years. Ok granted by flights for half term 2016 have gone up about £20 on the 2014 price.
I don't think that the lack of tour operators is down to that. When I first started coming there were lots of people from Ireland out there, there were Dutch and Danish and there were coach loads from Slovakia

re:When Will The Tour Companies Ever Learn??

Yes it was quiet but the skiing was perfect. I had a number of enquiries which I was tempted to take but had to caution them of the town and what would be open. Daks closing before St Patricks day!! what is the world coming to? and Pampi closing this week. Snow is still falling and only 3 restaurants open in Pamporovo. the lobby bar in Snezhanka was always busy this week but people were staying in instead of going out because there was no where to go!
