Where is the best central place for skiing ?

Hi - We are planning a skiing holiday for February 2006, which place do you suggest us for skiing ?? however would like to be in a central place so that we can also visit places of interest in Sofia and surroundings. I have read that Borovets is the nearest and best skiing resort to Sofia - is this true - is Vitosha as good as Borovets since Vitosha is apparently nearer to Sofia. Please let me know so that I can book everything - THANKS ! Emma

Hi,

Bansko has some fantastic sking and although it's a fair drive from Sofia, a lot of people leave the resort a day early on their way back to the UK so they can check out Sofia. You can also do trips to places like the Rila Monastry from Bansko which most hotels will arrange for you.

Heheh - good suggestion - I wish I could afford it - lool ! What do you suggest as to skiing hours - this is our first time and we do not want to spend a lot of time skiing we just want to get a basic idea and enjoy it - Is there a minimum of hours a day you can take and for how many days ?

To really learn properly and to improve quickly you should spend a fair proportion of the holiday skiing. I find on a skiing holiday you really get into this world, you will make friends in your lessons, want to practice what you learnt and then meet up with everyone for a drink at the end of the day. If you take to it you will find you will want to spend all available time on the slopes. For me just being on the mountain is fantastic, you can spend time in the cozy log cabins on the ...

If you take to it you will find you will want to spend all available time on the slopes. For me just being on the mountain is fantastic, you can spend time in the cozy log cabins on the mountain in front of the fire, with a drink if you need a break.
I suggest you book a ski holiday in one of the resorts, after a day or two you can decide if you want a day off to go shopping or to see a place like the Rila Monastery. By the way Sofia is a pretty miserable place and in the winter is even worse.

you will need every day - full lesson time - you'll love it and not want to miss a minute on the slopes. we were 1st timers 3 years ago and planned to venture out of bansko - still haven't seen the rila monastry or anywhere in sofia outside of the airport!

Do you suggest that we book lessons in advance or is it better if we book directly there ?

It is much cheaper to order your lessons in advance, if you purchase them on the slopes, I have heard it can be as much as £100 more for a weeks tuition.
