I was in Bulgaria (Bankso) for the first time last week and had read many simlar reports to this first poster. So it made me a little aprehensive about the place. I can safely say that I love the place.
1)Its no longer the cheap alternative.
Well in comparision to my last holiday to Mayrhoffen we save about £300 per person for the whole holiday and stayed in nicer accomodation.
2)Piste maintenance is at best poor, at worst dangerous

I was in Bulgaria (Bankso) for the first time last week and had read many simlar reports to this first poster. So it made me a little aprehensive about the place. I can safely say that I love the place.

Well in comparision to my last holiday to Mayrhoffen we save about £300 per person for the whole holiday and stayed in nicer accomodation.
2)Piste maintenance is at best poor, at worst dangerous
Some of the runs went unpisted but for me I liked that, who wants to ski/board on giant motorway flat pistes everywhere. Then every run becomes the same.
3)No big ski areas
You can only ski 1 run at a time!
4)unreliable snow
So is everywhere, but last week we had excellent conditions in Bansko
5)Bulgarians...miserable, un helpful and at times only looking to steal what they can.
99% of the Bulgarians we met were really friendly and went out their way to help us.
6)medical facilities- third world
Never used them

Nod, When I booked for Borovets I took a chance, I went with a measure of apprehension, unsurprising considering all the negative comments. For the first two days in Borovets I wasn't sure what to make of the place as I was still matching up what I was actually experiencing with preconceptions based in part on negative comments.
The snow wasn't great to start with but it did snow midweek so that made it much better. Of course if the snow coverage was poor I likely wouldn't be as ...
