Your first time??

Well then folks as the old board is hotting up a bit let us see if we can keep it that way.
So how did you all discover Skiing/Boarding in Bulgaria and what was your first time like (over in a flash!!) Sad

For me it was 1998. I fist went skiing to Austria aged 12 and had been longing to ski ever since, trouble was I never seemed to have any money! The joy of buying your own place at 21. Anyway I read an article in the Mirror about Skiing in Bulgaria with a price of £199!!! Wow I thought ...

Anyway I read an article in the Mirror about Skiing in Bulgaria with a price of £199!!! Wow I thought that sounds good so did some rersearch asked some friends to come no on wanted too!! Sod it I thought I will go it alone! Best decision I have ever made. Chose Pamporovo and the learn to ski package and waited until March to go. Boy that was a long wait!

Anyway I went feeling both nervous of being alone and excited and worried. Should'nt have been really as I was only alone on the plane going over. The learn to Ski group was great made friends easily on day 1 and was up partying everynight until 4am! Best holiday ever and I have been back 3 times since, with friends and family. Took my partner Louise last year who shall we say was a bit reluctant but she had a great time and although we are not going this season we are both looking foward to 2006!

So to all of you going out for the first time this season relax you will have fun Very Happy

re: Your first time??

My first time skiing was again when I was about 12, but mine was in Glen Shee in Scotland.

2nd and 3rd times were in Germany's Harz mountains with the British Army.

4th time was in the Canadian Rockies (again with the army, paid £50.00 all in. LOL) Good old British Army)), Banff, Lake Louise and Sunshine village.

Then in 2000 I had my first trip to Pamps, I went back this year with Jim, and I am returning in February half term bringing my 2 girls who have never skied before...

So as always we watch the snow forecast praying for the biggest dumps of snow, and looking forward to reading the first reports as people come back from their week or 2 weeks away!

My first time was in Soll Austria in Feb 1976, Followed by Italy in 1978 and then Borovets way back in 1982... the gondala was brand new... stayed in a hotel near the frozen fountain.... too long ago to remember the name.

Back in 1982 the Bulgarians said they loved the English because like them we turned up on the slopes looking like death because of hangovers, unlike the Germans who didn't turn up unless they were in pristine condition.

The official exchange rate was 2.10 lev to the £ but the unofficial black market rate (not recommeded these days) was 9 lev to the £

The locals could only use the ski lifts if no visitors were in the queue, if visitors turned up they had to step aside. But the British told them if they queued they took their turn unfortunatley the Germans still barged in until it was made clear by a group of West Country Lads that every one took their turn.... this caused the Germans to accidently fall over a rather steep slope when they tried to push in.... to great cheers from the Locals.

We had a great time back in 1982, a great time last year and we're looking forward to a great time this year.

re: Your first time??

My first time was a total surprise for me. 1 week before, my wife and I went out for a meal with 2 friends. It was 1 week before my birthday.

After the meal my wife said she had my birthday present with her and asked me to open it. I explained my birthday wasn't for another week but she said she wanted me to open it in front of our friends.

It was a picture frame with 10 pictures in it, 9 of which were of me on holiday in different places. The 10th one was a picture of a ski resort ...

It was a picture frame with 10 pictures in it, 9 of which were of me on holiday in different places. The 10th one was a picture of a ski resort but I still hadn't caught on what it meant.

Thay asked me what I thought the 10th picure was and I said it looked like a ski resort, and they said YES....... you are going skiing next Saturday. I replied I cant because I'm working and they said.............. you're not!!!!!!!

All was arranged and all I had to do was sit on the plane, and our friends came with us.

It was a week in Austria and we have never missed a year since.

Best birthday present EVER Razz

re: Your first time??

My first time was in Jan 2002, 2 weeks in Borovets staying at the Samakov with the learn to ski package, fantastic time, not being superbly confident in normal? life took to it suprisingly well, probably due to the fact the group was only 4 of us with me the only begginer and a very good instructor.

Second time was over New Year last/this year staying at the Perelik in pamps again a fantastic time, better than the first as more confidence on the ski's. cant wait to go back.

PS

I have now had the op on the knee, all went well but saw the specialist last week who has said that I should leave it completely for a year before falling down again in pamps!!

Murdo Very Happy Booze
