bansko Gondola

hi

We're looking to come back to Bansko this year but still hugely worrie about the gondola issue. Last year we were told that one of the hotels had links to Ulen and got you a pass to avoid the queues. Is this true and if so which hotel is it?

wse did see loads of people being able to 'jump' the queue but guessing they were the clever ones who stayed in the right place

Jus one of those things we're looking into before booking

re: bansko Gondola

I think the key thing is the timing of when you go - Xmas and new year seem to be very busy - as is the week of the UK school half term. Also - late Jan / early Feb there is a half retm for Romanias' (I was there at this time last year and it was crazy) - My advice would be to consult with the likes of Steve C / Nightmuffy on this board who live out there and know the dates to avoid... then plan your trip around the busy times.

Of course if you are limited to school holidays - then this ...

I remember hearing last year of a VIP pass that was being offered by the Kempinski (5* hotel by the Gondola station) - check the below thread from last season - there are people talking abut it who have actually used this service. Kempinski looks and sounds lovely but that lovely does come at a price....

re: bansko Gondola

Kempinski does VIP passes not sure if any of their other hotels offer this. The Gondola queues should be better organised this year and they have also bought 10, 18seater coaches to use when they are busy to drive people up the mountain. Takes no longer than the gondola to drive up.

re: bansko Gondola

Its worth remembering that out off the peak times the queues are not a great big issue, I have visited in March, but regularly go last week in Jan, we rarely queue for more than 5-10 mins, the only exeption being in 2009 when the gondola broke down for 11/2 hours at start up, that caused massive queues.

If you steer clear of Christmas to 2nd week in Jan and the middle to end of Feb you shouldnt have big problems.

Don - you're of course right - by and large it isn't an issue - but if you've been through one of the busy times you'll want to avoid doing it again!! Very Happy
I though we were safe first week of Feb this year but turmed out not to be the case - lesson learnt: check with those that know before booking!!... Very Happy

re: bansko Gondola

The 2nd gondola is a requirement that Ulen recognises and to that end is being proposed to the new goverment, the older permissions now having lapsed. There will be a presentation made to the new primeminister when he attends the World Cup event at he end of Feb by Ulen and interested parties. There may be a need for supporting bodies also to make their feelings clear.
We may organise a petition to go with the presentation as the more pressure that can be applied, especially from visitor ...

We may organise a petition to go with the presentation as the more pressure that can be applied, especially from visitor groups, will hopefully sway the goverment to at least review the situation.
On the up side there could be a possibility to pursue the route enabling the new top station to go to Shilligarnika, the obvious choice (turned down originally) rather than Bunderitsa Polyana..
As stated on previous replies, timing is of the essence, avoid busy times, half terms, Chrismas/new year, world cup etc.. all other times queuing is not really an issue....

re: bansko Gondola

Steve, we are going on the 13th Feb and staying at the Banderitsa. There seems to be some confusion as to when the half term is this year. In Northern Ireland it can span two weeks, in England it seems to be 20th until 27th. Can you shed some light on when Bansko is expecting the half term week?
