i arrived last thursday to sofia and it was incredibly cold -17 at night. i stayed that night with friends in sofia and then we went to bansko the day after.

bansko- bansko itself is an incredibly old town and very pretty. the ski resort itself is of average size and is quite compact. The lifts were all operating yesterday and the day before serving all of the pistes, the pistes themselves had plenty of snow however the majority of the runs were either badly groomed or not at all such as the plato runs. this consequently made it quite dangerous however for the more advanced skier it proved to be better as the powder was some what insane.

the shiligarnika pistes were arguably the best groomed and had very good snow coverage however they weren't incredibly busy as i expected. the were too runs that weren't open and that was the bunderitsa red run and another red run running down the side of shiligarnika.

the tordoka and tomba runs were in very good conditon at all as there was loads of ice on both however the snow coverage was still impressive. the ski road back to the town was also very good conditon due to the snow cannons being constantly on, these cannons are like nothing i have ever witnessed before as they actaully pump out snowSmile and not crushed ice like they did in pamporovo like when i last went! the chalin valog black was also in emmense condition and arguably the best in the resort as it was groomed to perfection.

the temperature was quite cold but perfect for skiing being at about -5 at the bottom and -10 at the top every day was sunny after a brief period of fog at bunderitsa polyana.

the prices however on the resort was not such a bright point as it is now about the same as england, chips costing 5 lev! i brought sum chips at the bottom of the plato run getting charged 3 lev but i believe this was because i spoke in bulgarian and later when my friend when and got some from exactly the same cafe he got chraged 5 lev due to him speaking only english, i believe.

overall the resort provides very good skiing however it is becoming increasingly expensive.

the conditions are currently very good however the todorka and the tomba run could do with a fresh load of snow to prevent ice.

i have given and accurate and honest report here so if anyone wants to ask any questions feel free.

have a great winter

oops... I read the thread heading and thought ... 'Wow, Bankso is full... that's good news for apartment owners.' But then the penny dropped. Sad

re: bansko full update

no snow your having a laugh, theres plenty, i guess you haven't been on the higher slopes and yeah that true the grooming is bad but it adds a different element to skiing as its good powder

re: bansko full update

My nice new skis got plenty of scratches from the rocks but I'd rather have a few scratches and good powder
