Hello

I have booked a holiday in borovets for my family me and my wife have skiied alot in france / italy, but we are taking our 2 young boys 6 and 9, its there first time.

Reading some of the forum comments on borovets most of them are REALLY bad. poor pistes, lifts old and break down, town full of ladies i dont want my sons to see just yet, food s bad, people are rude, and alot of people saying its not that cheap and go to the alps

I have been to the alps many times and if its a case of paying a few hundred pounds more to get a great holiday, it may be worth it

The comments on bansko seem better but it sounds like a building site and the lift Queues really long

I really want a great holiday for us all and mostly the kids

Do you think bulgaria, bansko / borovets???? will be ok

We are in the hotel Rila

Help please I am worried now!!!!!

Many thanks

Marcus

re: bansko or borovets???

I took my family to Borovets and had a great holiday. The pistes and equipment were poor but there were no problems in the resort and we had a good time.

I think for beginners then Borovets will be fine as the equipment and piste issues will be less significant. If you are intermediate or better, then you may find the conditions frustrating.

The cost of going to Borovets instead of Italy was marginal. There were some aspects that were really good, such as the proximity to the slopes ...

The cost of going to Borovets instead of Italy was marginal. There were some aspects that were really good, such as the proximity to the slopes and the night life but for skiers it may be better to look elsewhere.

re: bansko or borovets???

I will be honest with you, If you have skied alot in France and Italy, you will be dissappoined with the piste and possibly the lift system. I went to Boro for my first skiing experiance and enjoyed every part of it ( except the after affects of the Bulgarian night). I have since been to France a couple of times and the quality of skiing is far better. Having said that boro was a much friendlier place and I would love to go back.

As for lift queues, we went in the half term. The gondola was a nightmare in Boro. If you judge it right there are other lifts to use till the queues die down or get there early.
I also stayed in the Rila. I found it an enoyable experiance. It's not four star but it's comfortable, I found the food to be ok as well. It is also ideally located for the nursery slopes for the children. I hope this helps you decide

re: bansko or borovets???

It's our third year there this year, and we think it's great, our 9 year old son loves it too. The ski schools for the kids are great if you don't mind letting them go for the day, we were out of our minds at first but found the tutors to be first class and the kids loved it. This year we will all ski together for the first time, cannot wait!!! Not too sure where you heard about the ladies of the night but I didn't see any neither did our son!! My wife just informed me there were plenty in the Rila shopping area, not in your usual ski get up!!! I must have been looking at the floor then. I would still recommend Borovets. Good Luck

Marcus we have done a lot of research on this ourselves as we thought we were booked in Bansko then discovered that we are actually in Bovo, we panicked and hastely researched the differences.Whilst you may have read bad reviews on the area of Bovo, they are mainly focused on the hotel Rila due to its location, its very central and due to this people have found the noise of the clubs kept them awake until the early hours. There is a hotel called Lion which is only a 15 minute walk with a free shuttle bus, this is a quieter location but with all the amenaties you would expect from a 4* hotel.
This is the choice we made, have never been before and we will know if its the right one in 4 weeks time !

I stayed at the Rila, I didn't find it noisey. The only noise I remember was the flags fluttering in the wind. As I said the location is great for the slopes

re: bansko or borovets???

Your boys will love it, the location of the Rila could not be better and if they are learning they can play on the two drag lifts right outside all day.

Have a great time.
