The grand was fantastic and would make anybodies holiday on it's own.
The lack of snow has been a problem all season. We had fresh snow on tues so good enough skiing on tues & weds. But thawed fast on thursday. 12deg C in the shade when we left on Sat lunch.
Very little queing as went to the gondalla before 9 most mornings, the day we didn't and got there at 9:30 there were massive queues so went back into the hotel and had a drink.

As I've previously written the town seams much more finished than on previous visits. So trust me that shows how bad it was. There is still a huge ammount of building work & the pavements are a nightmare.
Nightlife : this was pretty poor. Amigo's was ok but too noisy (getting past it now) The friendly bar was good. Ventured in to the happy end but didn't stay long. main issue is the lack of toilets, just one in amigo's for 200+ people, not good.
Personally I feel Bansko has served it's purpose for me. I've become a competent skier, and would like to see more of the skiing world. It's a great cheap place to learn. Until they have more mountain to ski on and another gondalla I don't think I'll return.
great holiday though but i knew what I was expecting. you can't expect the earth when you are paying peanuts. Take Bulgaria for what it is (a poor developing country) & you'll love the place & the people.
Bulgaria has done you good service i guess. This is it.Once you lift off the beginners level, it becomes useless as a destination unless you are on a very tight budget. But on same budget you can go to many other ski destinations with longer runs and settled infrastructure.
I dont agree with that, i think bulgarias a fantastic place to ski and wouldnt complain with what they have consindering their wealth. Been borovets and france and not too much difference, i love the place!
rufus, can you give me any more info/tips on the grand arena ? heading out myself on the 10th. I'm praying for a drop in weather and a dump of the white stuff, but what is the hotel like ? cheers
you couldn't ask for a better hotel than the grand. From the moment you arrive they can't do enough for you. Porters, waiting staff the guy in the boot store all excellent.
Only downside is because we were half board & the food was fairly good there was no reason to eat out. Which I missed a bit. The Resturant is a better bet than the buffet. We ate there 3 times & only paid for drinks. You get a voucher worth 45lev each. breakfast was good and they have a little man who will make ...

The spa is awesome. If you are into the treaments I would imagine even better.
If there is no more snow very very soon I can't see the season lasting too much longer. Once the middle station has gone there will just be a drag lift to service two slopes right at the top. If its windy these will close too.
please don't get me wrong, i do like bulgaria and their people. anyone new to skiing should love this place. it's expensive enough buying basic kit but bulgaria gives you an enterance into a great sport. can't wait to try somewhere further a field.
If i'd brought property there I'd be worried. Hopefully this season was a one off. But same can be said for most of europe.
tomi . . me and my family have been skiing to bulgaria for about 13 years . . .sometimes twice a year and we have never failed to have a fantastic holiday , . .there,s skiing for all abilities . . its cheap , friendly and snow or not much snow its never stopped us from having a great time. . we also go to france (a group of fairly good skiiers) but borovets is the place for us
On the skiing abilty front i'd say theres more than enough terrian for everyone. Only on tuesday i was skiing some really cool gulleys with lots of powder. But theres more than enough for everyone. I teach here and found enough slopes to teach everyone of every abilty.
