Kev your a complete snob who must walk about with his head up his backside. So why did you go to Bansko? because you though it was cheap just like all those lower class individuals that you mention.
As I said maybe you should get out a bit more, you thought you were getting a 5* hotel on the cheap just like everyone else. BTW I would not class the hotels the Guinness or the Kempinski as 5* that is the tour operators rating which are always higher.

You obviously decided that after the first day the place was rubbish. On day one there is alway long queue at the gondola as people are picking up their equipment.
A holiday is what you make it so in your case I hope it was a complete was of money.
I won't be heading back to Bansko myself next year, I found good points and bad points but I still managed to enjoy my holiday with a smile on my face and not sound like a moaning git.
You said the flights were bad - could happen anywhere, you choose Balkan over Br Airways you pays your money.
You chose for thwe coach tfr rather than the Bus - takes much longer and especially if you have kids its better in a taxi.
Snow conditions - same accross Europe currently so thats a draw.
You stay in a 5 Star Hotel and complain about spending £1k on a weeks holiday. Im guessing it was min 2 adults & min 1 kid so £1k for 3 people flights tfr food drink ski passes ski school ...

Also I have just looked at la Plange and current offers are £519 per adult per week. Kimpinski is £346 for the room for 2 adults & 1 kid then you have flights of £150 each so total cost is £265per person per week. Not sure how thats cheaper currently it certainly is not the case.
I am consistently surprised that when someone writes a negative report on a vacation they were clearly not happy with, they get called a 'moaning git'. Are people not allowed to have an opinion without risking abuse?
Mat, I would like to think that I'm an honest person and say it as I see it. When I'm on holiday I always try to find the postive points in an attempt to enjoy myself. Its when I get home that I reflect on whether the holiday was good or not and I then make my decision on whether I will return or not.
For me Bansko had more negative than postive this year, but its the way you put your agrument or points across. I'm sorry but to me Kev just comes across as a moaning git, he wanted a cheap ...

I do agree some people will back Bulgaria to the hilt, I'm not one of them, but as I said its the way you put your point across, it will reflect on the reaction that you get on the forum.
Kevr1 - to say you paid about 40p for a beer at the Happy End 3 years ago is very unlikely. It has always been an expensive bar (location, location...) 3 years ago we paid around 3-3.50 Leva for a beer. Only had one then left. By uk standards it was cheap but by Bg very expensive. Spent the rest of that week in the taverns away from Pirin Street paying 25-60p for a beer.

No matter where you are the most convenient/obvious places are always more expensive - have a sense of adventure, use those legs and take a walk through the town - lots of places with very cheap prices. Walk into a themed bar right at the bottom of the slopes and you will pay through the nose - in any country!
Happy end - you are totally correct, Id go as far to say the 3-3.5Lev is even more than I paid there in Aug07, BUT I had Pirinski/cheapest beer available and some other unheard of brands to me.
Even then it was notably more than other places we had gone to but I was happy to pay that as I wanted to watch the Eng v Wales Rugby World cup warm up.
There are so many places to eat and drink in Bansko youd never get round them in 2 weeks let alone 1 week so apart from the hassle of a bit of ...

Kevr1 - A beer in Twickers costs £4.50 yet the bars outside of the stadium you can buy a beer for £3, people dont have to get into the stadium early but some choose to and therefore must be happy to pay more - I on the other hand have a few in the bars then take in a few cans.
oh and another thing, we've been in a few mehanas and bars, and if you offer a smile you get nothing but Lots of Smiles back!
Had a ball on sat night in "friendly pub" with fun singalong.Whole pub singing.
Honest, Kev, staff are being so friendly this season, I'm well impressed and will definitely be back next year..
