Just returned from an excellent week in Bansko, maybee able to clear up the reason for some closures in the past week. Red run 8 was closed for much of the week, early on for competitions and later for practice for competitors for the European cup on Friday and saturday. Blue run 5 was closed for the beggining of the week for a slalom competition but reopened after 2-3 days. Two lifts have to remain closed following the major fire damage, the lower of the two drags up to todorka is badly damaged and may be closed for a considerable time, the four man chair also damaged by the fire was being tested on wednesday and thursday but has not reopened at present, this maybee the reason why both runs to lower shilli are closed, there is not yet sufficient snow to get down the ski road to the gondola mid station so the only way back would be the closed lift. The tomba run was closed all week due to preparation and competition for Europa cup. This should reopen but I would imagine the surface will be very icy, they were spaying water on it early in the week and then temperatures dropped to -12 degrees. Conditions elsewhere were generally good but icy, certainly made the reds more interesting, the black at chalin valog was very icy early in the week but felt better when I skied it on Friday, its certainly good fun!, conditions remained very cold all week and snow fell most days improving conditions as the week went on, but bitterly cold on the upper lifts. Conditions seem to be improving all the time and all those travelling soon should enjoy excellent conditions. Steve C, sorry didnt get to say hello this time, maybee see you next time. Jimmy if your still reading these posts, you can have excellent skiing at Bansko, this was by far my best visit so far, I will be back next year (will avoid the World Cup week though).
