Candle/board wax.

Quick question, i understand that friction created by the wax helps with motion on the slopes, could candle wax be used 2 create the same if not better effect?

Ski waxes have been designed to provide the optimum perfomance for certain snow conditions and for the use of the ski. What is also special about ski waxes is that they contain no material that will harm the enviroment, consider all the skis laying down strips of wax on the snow ?? when the snow melts you could have an oil slick Cool

re: Candle/board wax.

where's the best place to get them the waxed in Boro? We had ours done in Jan and it cost £5 - is that a good rate or we fleeced. Last year, our instructor got something out of his pocket and did them on the top of the mountain!

Hi Caroline..
£5.00 about right for hot wax, in fact for a full service somewhat of a bargain Very Happy
What your instructor was using was a rub on wax, works for a couple of runs, but washes out really easy, hot wax is better Razz
There is a guy right outside the gondola, who waxes skis/boards on the steps of the shop, watching him he seems to know what he is doing, can't comment on the cost...

re: Candle/board wax.

How we laughed at our friend who used candle wax. Stuck like S*** to a stick on the snow and wouldn't budge. Can't beat using the corect wax for the job! There are hundreds of different types of waxes if not thousands and are made to specific standards for a reason, to work! I am sure it does work for Frank and if he ever got lost he could set fire to one end to light the way Very Happy
