Hi all,
Back from Boro yesterday. Just wanted to put our thoughts down might be helpful or not to others!?
First off the snow conditions were perfect. Beautiful sunny days, loads of snow, very well groomed runs. Couple days of snow and crozy conditions at the top of the gondola, but all in all conditions perfect.
We travelled with Balkan, as we have done on a few previous trips and found them ok, upon arrival we were told "your not staying in the Olymp Hotel, your upgraded to the Iglika" We asked why, but none of the reps could tell us!? Wouldn't say it was an upgrade? Maybe in location, but the rooms were shabby and the showers/wetrooms were.....well wet to the point of being drowned. The communal areas of the hotel were nice, the pool was small and the table tennis cost extra but they are silly little things just saying!
Our main gripe was Ski School. Our instructor was AWFUL!! Worst I have ever had. Was in an intermediate group ranged from 2 weeks skiing and up, our instructor left us at the top of the gondola and told us to ski down as he had to go and sort out his girlfriend? He skied on his phone all the time, and only bothered to teach and guide those in the group he had a crush on. Needless to say our group went from 9 people to 4 and when we spoke to borosport and they shrugged and said so what!?
Borovets is a nice resort, good bars nice people. But everything seems to be owned by borosport? Our instructor refused to take us anywhere that wasn't run by Borosport, which we thought was a bit poor as in previous trips we have always gone to different places and seen some sights so to speak.
So all in all the trip was good, snow and skiing fab. Still very in love with Bulgaria but Borovets? Not for us, back to Pamps from now on.
5th time to Boro for me and I also had a less then great instructor, which is a shame because I have had some great ones. But, once we asked him for advice (not just simply skiing down after him) we got it. Maybe end of the season tiredness? Not really good enough though - and it was samokov ski not Borosport. I'll be back though - won't let one lazy instructor spoil it for me!
Caz
I guess it was just the whole thing, well a build up of the little things. Maybe it was end of season tiredness we met up with a good few others also unhappy with various aspects of Borosport. One beginner group who didn't get off the nursery once all week and they begged the instructor to take them up for a run!?
But, your right not going to let a few negitive experiences put us off, will be booking for Pamps next march in the next few weeks.
See my post re my experience of Borosports instructor Evanna I had last week. Sounds like I got lucky as she was truly wonderful. Took us to the top of the mountain and we did Blue Runs twice and I had never skiied before. Went with Inghams staying at the Moura and both were fantastic. Definitely going back next year!!!!
finally.....got on one good thing with the quieter season.....prices have become more realistic, and staff are a lot more friendly, i wonder why??????????
and next season will be quiet as well, as the snow was poor for this season it has a knock on effect for the following year........oh well heres to counting the days..(was hoping to get back around easter but the flight prices are daft unfortunately
