I know eventually you have to do a written exam but I don't know at what stage you start studying for that. When I did it you had to do a minimum of 40 hours flying before you could take the final test but after 15 (I think) you fly solo. For my 2 lessons I took control in the air but the instructor did the take offs and landings. I had a go at taxying which I found quite tricky actually because the pedals have 2 functions. Because we are used to driving a car you want to keep turning the control wheel but as this just moves the wing flaps up and down it does nothing on the ground. Which airport are you doing the course from? I did mine from Biggin Hill in Kent.
