Jeddah is just scruffy in many areas, But it has a beech and is alot more relaxed than Riyadh where i am.
Id say give it a go its worth it for the experience. Ive been over here 2 years now so you do get used to it.
The oppertunity for travel while over here is great, Bahrain, Oman, Dubai, Qatar and Eygpt are all 90 minutes away so good for weekend trips.
Sharm El Sheikh is a 50 minute flight from Jeddah.

just booked yesterday for pamps 24th jan - the travel agent said the bookings were down but mainly due to the lack of good deals around at the moment
