I agree with Peter, a year or two ago i was approched in some pizza restaurant in Borovets by the guy who stands outside trying to get people to come in and he asked me if i needed money changed, when i said no thanks he kind of piled on the pressure and it made me feel uncomfortable but i still said no. I think he may have thought i might have been naive and could try and swindle me out of cash. Dont get me wrong here, i mean the Bulgarian people are very kind and welcoming but you need to watch out for the odd scamer as you would in any foreign place.

Forget what the rates are here. Once out there you will get anywhere from 2.75 to 2.85 for sterling. Usually a little better than the best rate here. Although you may see good rates displayed here, it doesnt take into consideration the commission factor or tha handling charge. Invarably the rate you get will be less. If there is no commission, invarably the rate will also be less. Remember there is no free lunch .....

Dont stress to much about it, most hotels or bars will change a few pound for you once you get there, its not as big an ordeal as some people will make out.

Ive been to Bulgaria several years now, and i just change money out there.......more or less the same rates if not better and no hassle this side trying to get money organised....... Hope this helps somewhat
