I agree with Peter, a year or two ago i was approched in some pizza restaurant in Borovets by the guy who stands outside trying to get people to come in and he asked me if i needed money changed, when i said no thanks he kind of piled on the pressure and it made me feel uncomfortable but i still said no. I think he may have thought i might have been naive and could try and swindle me out of cash. Dont get me wrong here, i mean the Bulgarian people are very kind and welcoming but you need to ...

We took levs, there is cash line machines if you need more. The ski instructors tell you about people who will change sterling for you but it is dodgy dealing
hi mate, your'e better to take sterling, you seem to get a better rate. also take a little lev with you to start the trip off and shop around for the best deals, hotels vary such alot. ive been 5 times now and for the sake of a walk around, the better exchange rate is worth it.
DONT - DONT - DONT exchange in the streets or in bars your'll be looking at trouble. anything else you need just ask !!!! gash
Forget what the rates are here. Once out there you will get anywhere from 2.75 to 2.85 for sterling. Usually a little better than the best rate here. Although you may see good rates displayed here, it doesnt take into consideration the commission factor or tha handling charge. Invarably the rate you get will be less. If there is no commission, invarably the rate will also be less. Remember there is no free lunch .....
Dont stress to much about it, most hotels or bars will change a few ...

Dont stress to much about it, most hotels or bars will change a few pound for you once you get there, its not as big an ordeal as some people will make out.
Ive been to Bulgaria several years now, and i just change money out there.......more or less the same rates if not better and no hassle this side trying to get money organised....... Hope this helps somewhat
At the end of the day unless your changing hundreds upon hundreds, and your really bothered about losing a couple of quid, use the hotel services. At least its ligit and and you know the money is ok!
Its cheaper anyway, so you dont lose on commision the way you do in the likes of Spain etc!
Play safe- get a saftey deposit box
use the hotel bank
dont get too merry as to fall over and lose your wallet! ( ohh thats harder in Boro, I know !)
Just use common sence really!
