i was there 2 weeks ago - in bansko. i could smoke everywhere. within reason., like bars and resturants. also, as we drove back to greece, we could take them through the boarders. but it was then limited 2 1000 per vehicle. from thessaloniki to london you could bring up to 7000.
I went to Bulgaria in Feb of this year and was not allowed to buy cigarettes at Manchester airport as they say it is part of the EU.
Beware of buying british brand cigarettes from bar owners etc in Bulgaria as they are usually fakes!! My husband bought lambert and butler 2 years ago and they were nothing like the real thing.
Yep - I too have witnessed the smoking ban where the Police come in and sit at the one and only no smoking table (usually in the middle of the room) then remove the sign to another table get an ashtary and well you know the rest - thats how the smoking ban works in BG.
Most smokers have no idea or regard for non smokers and couldn't give a toss about how deeply unpleasant it is for non smokers. I was in turkey in summer and brits couldn't wait to spark one up whilst eating. It was almost like a protest to have one anywhere you like.
What a difference to go and watch a match in the pub now.
Good beer...No smoke...Heaven!!!!
