re: duty free

Smoking is now band in Bulgaria, taking cigarettees in or out of the country in punishable by imprisionment, just think a week of no smoking and fresh air will do you the world of good.

We went to Boro for Xmas last year and could smoke anywhere, we're off again this xmas.

re: duty free

Last season not allowed to buy at the airport for tax reasons, not sure about allowance if bought in resort. Don't let self righteous non smokers make you feel second class, they're not worried about polluting the air getting there!

re: duty free

Bulgaria is indeed in the EU but negotiated a phased entry of EU level excise duties, so at the moment is essentially not in the EU when it comes to cigarettes and alcohol because the excise rates aren't high enough here. You're allowed the usual duty free allowances of 200 ciggies etc, but I imagine most people stock up and hope HMC can't be bothered.

re: duty free

If you want to take cigarettes INTO Bulgaria the same allowance applies as for bringing them out which is officially 200 per person but they are not Duty Free but ok if you bought them in the UK. Same applies for the return into the UK but they don't impose the limit of 200 bought in BG if they are bought for personal use.
Hope that makes sense

re: duty free

Its all very well having lots of fags to smoke but it's very cold to smoke outside. BG started their ban same time as us. It's now illegal to smoke in any public place there.
