do i need a e111 in bulgaria? or will insurance be enough. also my travel agent has advised me to take a credit card with me just in case i need to be carried off the mountain because of an injury.
is this right

Hi no you do not need one yet as Bulgaria is not yet in the EU!

As luck would have I have just got an E111 form for the purpose of travelling to Bulgaria next month.
Although Bulgaria is outside the EEA, it is a member of the "Reciprocal Health Care Agreement". This is actually listed within the E111 form.
The Government suggest that you obtain an E111, otherwise charges may be collected directly and may not be refunded in full. This also includes dental treatment (of which there are two dentists in Pamporovo).

We spent 7 days in Bourgas hospital last June near Sunny Beach. All we had to pay was first £50, then insurance picked up the rest, We were told an E111 was no good at all.re: e111
