I'm sorry 'bout this being off subject but I know that a few of you have tried Whistler and Banff and I am trying to decide where to go for my 39th+1 next March. Have any of you been to both resorts ?
I like the look of the Caribou Lodge in Banff and Blackcombe lodge in Whistler has anyone been to these Hotels ?
Finally what are the prices like in the resort ? Beer beer beer and food mainly ?
Any tips or recomendations would be really welcome.
Caribou Lodge Is where I stayed this year Dave. Brilliant great bar and food 10 min walk to town centre straight down the road or they have a free bus if you cant be arsed!
You have a choice of I think 4 different mountains to ski on. All a bus ride. Whistler I belive has doorstep skiing I may be wrong. Banff Is much higher though mate and a shorter flight. Transfer 1.5 hours. Loads of fantsatic places to eat and drink give it a go Dave I intend to one day.
Thanks very much for the email Val that was a great help. I fancy the shorter transfer seeing as we will be travelling with our daughter (6) It sounds great at Banff, I have heard that Whistler is a very expensive resort due to it's popularity so will probably go for Banff to save a bit so I can fit a Bansko trip in as well. I will study the link you gave me ASAP.
Good value in Canada mate mind you I got $2.29 to the pound and it is now only £2.03 sorry!!!! Still they are very keen on local brewed beer so you can get to try loads of good stuff Aslo the food is a million times better than Bulgaria
I remember you could go to the Spaghetti factory and order a main dish of pasta for around $10-12 which included a starter and a sweet too. Very cheap if you want it to be. It means that other nights you can afford to go more expensive.
Tommy's bar does great burgers too for around $7.
I daren't comment on the hotel food in Bulgaria after the last dressing down I got. I look forward to some Canadian Burgers and that will keep my daughter happy as well ( as long as I eat that blasted gurkin) She hardly ate anything in Bulgaria except chips for lunch everyday with the kindergarten.
One more thing if you stay in the Caribou and it is room only. Turn right heading towards the town, past Carlton Cedar Court and the next hotel and behind a petrol station there is a superb diner for breakfast. We had a lovely cooked breakfast every morning which really set us up for the slopes so we didn't usually bother with lunch. They have some quite unusual fillings for omelettes eg steak but very nice!! mmmmmmmmm and as much coffee as you can drink.
