fewer people in Pamps

I have been watching the mid station cam at Pamps on and off this season and mostly the slopes seem to be empty. I was there the last 2 years and there definitely seems to be a lot fewer people this season. I know theres financial problems this year but it looks quite a significant drop. I havent seen any queues for the lifts at all. Great I suppose if your out there and you can just hop on to the lifts.

re: fewer people in Pamps

Just seen people on the webcam picture for 15:00 today! Checked the one here: http://plovdiv.meteo.bg/en/pamporovo.php this morning and was surprised to see a sunny day, loads of snow, working lifts and not a soul in sight. This was at around 10:00am Bulgarian time - was everyone too hungover to ski today or what?

re: fewer people in Pamps

We were there half term and it was just the same, not sure if the new runs are thinning out the number of skiers on the main runs, but we never had any queuing issues, and last runs down at about 3o clock onwards we had the slopes to ourselves almost

Snowy Steve mentioned it was packed a couple of weeks ago during the BG holiday.

re: fewer people in Pamps

Pamps is obviously suffering from a combination of bad reports and poor snow last year and start of this year. I suspect it will continue this way, and perhaps worse, until the "improvements" that are being spoken about get implemented. Fingers crossed it's not just a load of pie in the sky and Arron and PP are not being strung along for a PR stunt.

I do think the bad reports may have had an impact, and I gave an honest one when I got back in Jan. But I'm optimistic about the new improvements; I witnessed some of them a few weeks ago on my second trip to Pamps; cannons on full wack all the time, slopes being prepared much better (although not perfect) then when I was on my previous trip and the attitude of staff was much better as well. They've already taken steps by sacking some deadwood managers so this suggests its not all pie in the ...

We'll see next year.

re: fewer people in Pamps

Just reading the Andorra thread and many seem to rate it, to me Pass De La Casa wasn't a patch on Pamps. However I was at Pass 9 years ago and Andorra may again be catching up as a value resort.

Perhaps Bulgaria needs to keep this in mind, competitive advantage and all that? Although there has been, as my previous post, some good improvements perhaps these aren't enough? Resort managers I'd keep your eye on this - the more I think about it the more Pamps needs to deliver on its other ...

re: fewer people in Pamps

The new runs would definitely make a difference to what you're seeing on the webcam, because they're at the other side of the mountain and have their own lift. We've been several times at half term and have never seen so few people during what is usually the busiest week of the season. Not that we were complaining - fantastic ski conditions and no lift queues ... brilliant!

re: fewer people in Pamps

Pamps has suffered this year as there have been only a few flights to plovdiv as the transfer from Sofia is over 4hrs & that puts a lot of people off. This will be the same next year & until Plovdiv has completed its renovation the flights will continue to be in to Sofia. Give it 3 years & the punters should return, weather permitting of course!!!!! I was there last week & the snow was good, all runs open & it snowed along with thunder & lightning
