fingers crossed

If this is true ( which I doubt) it is great news and the first signs that Bansko is starting to think long term - Taken from the news pages on this site

The municipality and the citizens of Bansko ski resort will polish the city for the opening of the new winter season in the middle of December.
The people from Bansko will clean streets, pavements, green areas from rubbish. This is municipality initiative, which aims to transform Bansko in a cozy place for tourists.

The resort won't be in dust and dirt. Local people already used to the idea they should work harder for one more friendly image of the resort, shared Aleksander Kravarov, mayor of the city for second mandate.

He promised there won't be any problems and also reminded that the resort expects 1 million tourists for season '07-'08"

Knee jerk reaction after their slateing in the Sofia Echo methinks.

Lets hope they keep to their word, as the resort need a clean from top to bottom.

re: fingers crossed

I didn't do much skiing in the town, but I found the slopes pretty tidy.
This year the only places that looked untidy to me were around the building sites but you get that everywhere. Bansko has got a rustic charm that some people might mistake for looking dirty, but its the typical Bulgarian buildings.

re: fingers crossed

Bansko is doomed, it can not cope with that many visitors.

It was once a decent resort, greed is the worst sin
