re: first time boarding

In a word yes!!! You should be able to rent helmet's in resort, not sure about wrist protectors.
Pesronally If I had kids I would not consider letting them anywhere near the slopes without a helmet.

re: first time boarding

Yep, as a middle aged snowboarder for past 20 years I still wear a helemt, every one does so they won't feel like twats, if it's ice, bum protection is a good one, I don't wear wrist protection but my husband always has, don't think it was around when we learnt but quite cheap on e-bay. They will soon be converted.

If icy Helmets are a must. Wrist protection in my opinion just moves potential fractures elsewhere. When they have lessons they will learn how to fall correctly.

Hope they have a cracking time. Excuse the pun Very Happy

re: first time boarding

Tell them to get ready to enjoy eating snow Very Happy I skied for around the same time then started boarding, not an easy transition to say the least. I however don't wear any protection and I've never broken or hurt anything (touch wood).

re: first time boarding

My partner bought protective/padded shorts last year for his bottom and they made so much difference when the conditions were tough. (Scraped off snow and ice.) Quite a few people were buying them out there. But you might actually get a cheaper price on them here at home. One of the ladies we met did.

re: first time boarding

I would definately recommend wrist protectors. On my first snowboarding holiday I lasted a day and half without hurting my wrist and went straight to buy some. Well worth the money.

re: first time boarding

They will be going mental for the first day or so and may give up. I have seen so many skiers just get so annoyed that their tempers just go. Boarding is totally differnt to skis and needs a new mind set.

Pain and bruises are a guarentee but if you keep with it it is very worthwhile. They may spend the whole week on the nursety slopes outside the Rila, they have to be beginners again, which isn't easy.

Boarding is the future !
