Does anyone know if you can get flights only (direct) to sofia, just wondering if it can be cheaper booking direct yourself. cheers

re: flights

Yup, you can. We booked ours directly with BA, a little more expensive for the flights, but you can get cheap accommodation, so you can do it that way. Also, whizz air is pretty cheap, i am not sure if they fly to Sofia though. Hope that helps

re: flights

You could also try the national carrier, Bulgarian air, their web site is www.Air.bg. cheers

re: flights

We looked at that last year and could only get Bulgarian air – they were rubbish, we got one small drink in just over three hours

re: flights

I flew with them to Varna in Sept 2006 and could not fault them, Had meal and drinks provided.

re: flights

You can get scheduled flights to Sofia but generally more expensive. As the others say Balkan Air is probably your best bet. Not up to BA or Virgin standards but acceptable. In flight catering is shabby but edible. Drinks usually no problem. Basic but workmanlike...typical Bulgarian. Watch out for flight timings though. Can be all over the shop!

Am checking all these for next year!

re: flights

in order of cheapest first - (unless you get an unusual bargain)
flythomascook.com - manchester to sofia
wizz air fly from luton to sofia and are comparable to easy jet standards
Bulgarian Air are cheap and cheerfull - no problems
BA - bit better standards but more expensive

try all the web sites and you should get all the info you need

re: flights

Bulgaria Air (NOT Balkan) have always been Ok with our flights. No problem with drinks on board, and the usual 'snack'

re: flights

Bulgaria air has just been taken over by Hemus Air.

Have a go with Wizz but you have to book early to get the cheap prices. Otherwise their planes are very new.
