half-pipe at Rotata, Borovets

Heading to Borovets Sat 14th with 3 mates for a week's snowboarding. Being a skateboarder at heart I've been told that there's a half-pipe at somewhere called Rotata in Borovets. Other than a brief mention in travel brochures I can't find any pics, reviews, footage etc. Can anyone confirm firstly if it's still there and secondly, is it any good? (Not that I'd know, having only done it on a skateboard! ha ha!). Any info anyone please?

Googled it, found the following description 'If you are snowboard enthusiast, make sure you try the Rotata half-pipe in the Martinovi Baraki area of the resort. With a total length of 1240 m and a vertical drop of 320 m, the run has been designed to satisfy both beginners and advanced riders. The lower section of the run is suitable for beginners; the upper and middle sections are good for advanced snowboarders. The Rotata can be accessed via its own drag or a four-seat chair lift.' Do a search on this forum under all dates for 'rotata half-pipe' & you'll come up with various info - sounds like it maybe doesn't exist!! But we were there Feb half term & there was a snowboard half-pipe type thing on the bottom slope near the Ice Angels hotel, as the instructors & boarders did a show there on the Weds evening, boarders were doing 360 deg. turns etc on it..

Balkan Holidays describe it as

Snowboard enthusiasts, make sure you try the Rotata half-pipe. With a vertical drop of 320 m, the run was designed to satisfy both advanced riders in its upper end and beginners in its lower end. To make your snowboarding even more enjoyable, we have equipped Rotata with its own drag of 500 m.

Wherever it is, it's not obvious Exclamation As to whether it 'satisfies' not heard anyone raving about it. Maybe next season Very Happy

Hi Sick Pilot,
100% sure there is NO halfpipe ( not even a quarter ) in Borovets. The "rotata" is a (small) draglift, for children / beginners. When you take the (4-) seater lift ahead of hotel Rila, its the first turn to the left. The first part is a very nice piste ( red ), the last part is very steep ( dark black ) with "buckels". When snow conditions are not 'very good" it's often closed. ( experts only ). A few years ago they made a halfpipe at the bottom of this piste. And this ...

Last years ( I ski in Boro. for 25 yrs) there is NO halfpipe.
( one of my favourite pistes though ! ), I'm a ski-er.
Have fun there,
Nico.

hey sickpilot
you will find the halfpipe way out beyond the last drag at the top of the mountain, out towards the offpiste area....when i say halfpipe its kind of formed naturally between mounds and does need shaping.. if you have ideas of an x-games type halfpipe then youll be disappointed..

Bob's halfpipe is filled with snow at the moment only knew it was there as our instructor told us after we'd skied by it yesterday morning. The other half pipe is as per Nico says after the easy run at the top of the 4 man chairlift - straight down past the drag and you get to quite a steep, bumpy, icy at bits "half pipe" - really picturesque. Quite a few boarders there - I thought it was great and when I mentioned it to our Ski Instructor he said this was the half pipe.

Saw some great off piste boarders by the avalanche on Friday. Might swap the skis for a board and give it a go next year!

re: half-pipe at Rotata, Borovets

we did a week in boro in feb... we asked ... and there is NO HALFPIPE that we could find.. please don't go there if you're only looking for lots of air time.. we ended up building our own kickers, which was good but would've been better if someone in the resort management had the foresight to have had them built them for us boarders.. Apparently Bansko has a park, we're going on Monday...

Have fun

.. NOTE TO CAZ .. Ditch the ski's boarding is a lot more fun
