re: helemt in suitcase??

I've always just packed mine in the middle of my case and used the middle of the helmet to store all the small bits (repair kit, lipsalve etc) that normally get lost in the case. It's amazing how much you can jam into it!

My helmet and boots go in, I still make the 20kg. Granted I wear 6 t shirts, 10 pants, 2 jumpers, god it gets hot on the plane. Very Happy

We always put our helmets in the cases too. We use softcases and they haven't been damaged yet. Good for putting your goggles in to protect them too. To be honest, nothing involved in the journey is going to damage your helmets.

re: helemt in suitcase??

the kids carry their boots and helmets on to the plane, but thats more for 'room' than anything else. I usually sling mine in the case.
Got to disagree with Mat slightly, they might not sling them off roof tops but ive seen them sling them out of the hold!! onto the tarmac Booze Booze Booze

re: helemt in suitcase??

Thanks for all the replies. The idea to wear them on the plane (or plant!!) is awesome!! but i think we'll stick them in the cases and see what comes out the other end!!!

if anyone is in Boro second week of Jan look out for the northern boys, trust me its wise to get out of the way we are rubbish boarders with no fear!!!! mix that with beer and you've got a party Booze Booze Booze Booze Booze

re: helemt in suitcase??

The reason they are classed as fragile is once they are bashed they should be replaced, nothing to with them standing up to high speed accident. Same as riding helmets if you have a fall and smash them on the ground you need to replace them as they become weakened. putting them in the hold can allow them to get smashed and weakened. Another reason not to hire them you dont know if they have been bashed about.

re: helemt in suitcase??

Whilst I agree they're fragile if they're packed with clothes around them then they will be protected well within the case and shouldn't be a problem at the other end Cool

re: helemt in suitcase??

I have a special boot bag with a compartment for a helmet. The bag is fully padded. Never had a problem.
