re: helmet on the slopes

Our kids have always worn a helmet and we decided to set a good example this year for the first time. We bought a couple of Lidl cheapies and I for one am very glad we did. Ive got a very nice dink in the top of mine after a chairlift decided to take a chunk out of it and give me a nasty dig in the kidneys. I shudder to think what it would have done to my head otherwise. The other pleasant benefit was that it kept my head and ears nice and toasty whilst skiing in -40 degrees !

Dont give it a second thought - get one and wear it. You never know when it will come in handy.

Bought one 3 years ago and skied in it ever since. Warm as toast - and when you ski as fast as I do it's a must.

(All them beginner's overtaking me) Razz

American footballers wear helmets, rugby players don't, the helmet probably killed her. Two heads hitting share the impact, hard shelled helmets protect the wearer but inflict more on the other, imagine being hit in the arm by a helmet with 3kg inside it. (a bowling Ball) do you imagine you will escape a broken arm. Injurys in American football are more often life threatening than in Rugby, whereas soft skinned helmets save lives. Personally I am sick of this culture of driving 4x4's because they are safer, two renault cleos hitting each other seldon leads to death, a G-Wagon and Cleo results in the cleo occupants funerals. Helmet wearing is carrying a lethal weapon. I would sue the politician for every penny (euro) he has.

Wear a woolly hat with a thick band at the temple.

re: helmet on the slopes

Very silly post Andrew - helmets have saved the lives of many people in all walks of life and in many different circumstances. Maybe there can be the extremely rare occassion that a helmet has caused injury, but they save lives every day from rock climbers, cyclists, motor cyclists, parachutests, racing drivers, rally drivers, skiers, boarders, site workers, miners, etc. etc. etc.

My advice to ALL parents is to ensure your child is well protected - and that includes a helmet.

My kids were learning to snowboard in France last year and it is compulsery to wear helmets. We were told to buy some wrist supports as well due to the danger of snowboarders breaking wrists when they fall, which we did. After seeing a snowboarder in my group fall and break his wrist a few years back in Pamporovo, I suggest that you look into wrist supports also.

re: helmet on the slopes

I dont wear one, but in most ski resorts in Norway kids get a free lift pass every day they wear a helmet in the slopes. :-)

re: helmet on the slopes

two seasons ago my friend was standing at the edge of Bansko ski road (hardly dangerous) but a novice crashed into him and he bashed his head on a rock as he fell. He was off of work for two weeks feeling dizzy and sick.It could of been worse.

For the sake of a few quid, i think better to wear a helmet.

re: helmet on the slopes

I've never worn one before, because I've always skied to my abilities, but as can be seen from the comments above, it's becoming more common to be hit by someone out of control rather than the skier piling in.
