Firstly there seems to be very little improvements to the resorts this year. However this could also be said for the past 3-4 seasons. There has been more talk from the resorts than a womens rights AGM but sadly no action. There is a new addage that is thrown around these days which is 'if you stand still, you will end up going backwards'. Very true.
Secondly the prices are going up quicker than the apartments and that is quick. 50 levs for a day pass in Borovets ...
Just a few thoughts.
50 levs for a day pass in Borovets is one of the most expensive in europe per km of piste TBH the majority go to BG to ski because it is cheap. If you go for the great skiing then you need to get out more and venture around the alps. As soon as BG loses its biggest asset, ie its cheapness, it will die a young death.
Pistes are going to be busier than ever with the extra apartments, filled by the 1000s of owners who are going to start their rental businesses Didnt they know they can buy studios in French resorts cheaper
The people who run these resorts are the problem and they dont seem to know what investment is, let alone carry it out. At the moment everyone and everything in BG is blinded by 'having money now'. You cant blame them but it wont help them a jot in the future.
50 levs a day for a full lift pass is not excessive if you buy a day only pass. (£17) but it is if you are silly enough to do that every day. That is why it makes sense to book in advance and take advantage of the discounted tour company offers.
We all know Bansko is going to be very overcrowded. Even I do not have to argue that one. In the grand scheme of it all, a chairlift and a cafe will not change the resort much. The biggest problem bansko has is the inability to expand in the land around it. Obviously the property agents and those with interests will argue otherwise
Pamps Pete,

Point taken about the packages but with the majority soon staying in SC apartments/chalets etc, these packages will not be available and the ticket prices will have to come down.
what a strange way to work out value for money, cost per km?? surely if i go to the three vallees for a day and pay for a lift pass i may get better value for km. but how many km can you ski in a day???? i cant do 330km dont know about you.
New for this season Boro have put in an extensive snow cannon system to cover top runs, the feeling is a/ to always guarantee snow, and b/ to extend the length of the season.
Also the new gondolas starting on 8th october, so wont be ready this year ...

Henry: "Bansko mid-station? Mid-station of the gondola? Mid-station of the mountain? Where'd the "runs" go to from there?"
Gondola mid station (Chalin Valog) the "runs" will be heading north/north west towards the ski road. Believed to be getting snowmaking coverage also.

Yes it will be busy this year but no ski area can magically double or triple it's capacity overnight!
Not sure what vast majority means to you, but to me it would represent probably 70% to be the vast majority, and that is miles away from the facts.
Sure, there is a lot of self catering accomodation being built - but that is still a long long way from representing the vast majotity which will still remain package hotel holidays for some time to come yet.
