there are 4 cash machines in bansko divided between 3 banks. One day when I desperately needed money only one was working. Banks give a better rate for sterling cash than you will get from a cash machine.

there are small ski clothing shops in bansko but the selection isn't great particularly for snowboarding gear. The stuff in Sofia is cheaper. Better to buy it here from a retail outlet centre or something. Skiing for intermediates is good.
Price for lift is high (try to get a bulgarian to buy your tickets for you)....Hmm...actually mail me and I'll give you my number if you like and then you can ask away

We went to Bansko two years ago. Paid for our tuition and ski and boot hire in dollars - everyone seemed to prefer that - then everything else in local currency.
Bansko was perfect for us as total beginners and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as far as food, friendliness and atmosphere goes. But the number of slopes is very limited, you may find yourself going up and down the same couple of slopes. But I would say the charm of the place more than makes up for it - it's a real town not a purpose built concrete resort.
Bulgaria Ski set us up with a fantastic teacher - former champion and mountain rescuer - who really pushed us. The best tuition around.
