hi. im trying to organise snowboarding/skiing holiday for nine of us. problem is ive never been before and im getting really confused with all the brochures and stuff!
obviously we want something cheap and we're definately booking learn to board/ski packages. plus we want somewhere where theres plenty to do because one of us is not skiing or snowboarding. we're almost all beginners except for one skier and one boarder. please could someone help us out with where to go?! we've been looking ...

Yup snow was not that good last year at that time. I do not know much about Borovets but the person in your group who does not ski had better like reading/ drinking all day as there is not a lot else to do. I would look at Pamporovo or Bansko if I where you Borovets recieves far more criticisim than these 2. Wherever you end up do not book less than a 4 star hotel unless you really are not fussed about very basic accomadtion.Enjoy

The first week of Jan 2004, two friends and I learnt to ski in Borovets, we booked through Inghams and had no problems. There was plenty of snow for us three beginners. We were staying out of town at Malina Village, which is really nice but a bit of a hassle due to travelling in and out of town.
We are now planning a return trip in Jan 2005, looking to stay in the Samokov hotel, it was a toss-up between ...

Bit of a stutter eh Gareth? I did not want to sound to negative about Boro it just seems to attract more negative's than positve comments, but still has a lot of good reviews. Katie you will have a blast wherever you go. re: ist time and very confused!
Been 7 times to Borovers! and had always a great time. Stayed 5 times in Rila and 2 times i the Samokov hotel. I prefer Rila because they have got a better Lobby, swimmingpool, infront off the piste (nightskiying), more nice shops.For your friend who doesn,t ski theirs plenty to do, hiking, skidoo, horseriding, visit local monday market Samokov city, go to Sofia, etc.
Never been to Borovets that we could not ski. But last year march whas the best!

I know nothing of the other two resorts around there, they may be better, but as I say, we did have a good time in Borovets.
I'm not sure what one person on their own is gonna do with their time though.
One person anywhere may struggle to enjoy themselves, I'd expect that in a ski resort if you're not enjoying the snow there isn't going to be much else to do.

Sure, there's a swimming pool and massages available, there's a bowling alley and horse/sleigh rides to enjoy, a trip to Sofia or the monastery perhaps. There is enough to do if you're inclined, but it will depend entirely on the individual, though they'll only be on their own until about 4 or 5ish, so if they get up late and find something to occupy a few hours in the afternoon, they'll probably be fine.
I know nothing of the other two resorts around there, they may be better, but as I say, we did have a good time in Borovets.

Bansko being a town rather than a ski resort may hold more of an attraction than either Borovets or Pamporova (thats not a critisism of them) for the non skiers. There are plenty of shops, restaurants etc. A Sunday market. Lots of little back streets and alleys to investigate.Bansko also is the most snow sure of the Bulgarian resorts and didnt struggle for snow at all last year.
