just back from Pamps

Hi Everyone

Myself, hubby and 9 and 11 year daughters got back yesterday from Pamporovo. We had a fantastic time, it was very hard work, being the first time skiing. Our daughters were in the same ski class as us which was great. Our group had the most fantastic instructor ever. If any of you get Velco to teach you, you can't go wrong. Bulgarians are such friendly people.

On the down side though, we stayed at the Hotel Bor. Only place we could get a family room. It is very, very basic. Beds are just bits of wood stuck together, not comfortable at all, pillows were like rock. The bathroom was a wet room where the shower just fills up the floor until it runs out into your room. The food was very repetitive. Chicken most nights in some form or another, hence hubby and me getting a bit of a dicky tummy for a day. The staff were friendly enough. It can no way be classed as a 3 star. It's also a 10 minute walk up a hill in the freezing cold at night to get to the buzz of the resort.

We are definitly going back again but it won't be to the Bor. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Regards
Mandie

Seems like you had a good time skiing in Pamporovo despite what clearly sounds like a poor hotel, but at least you could see the positives in your holiday.
So you got to be in the same ski class as your children, that must have been fun and it is yet again very appealing to see that yet another person comments on this board about the great instruction recieved in Bulgaria and from the friendly nature of the Bulgarian people.

Bulgaria is a poor country, just seen that the UK taxpayer will be paying nearly £3million to Polish farmers from the Polish entrance to the EU, lets hope that in 2006/2007 when Bulgaria enter, the British people can remember the hospitiality they have received in Bulgaria and ask the Government to help this country too.

Here Here. I totally agree with you. Our instructor couldn't do enough to help our children and the rest of us. He made sure they had their hats and goggles all on correctly, he towed them up small hills if they were tired and he even kept the bell sellers at bay.

Mandie,

Sounds like your instructor was really good with the children which is great to hear Smile

Did you learn to ski well then?

I think so, we were going down greens by day 2, then blue and even a bit of red on Thursday

re: just back from Pamps

i think my daughters would be at the olympics before me. The flight was good even though the planes are a little bit worrying. Free soft drinks as well as a meal. I think there is less space in the seats than normal. My poor husband who is 6ft 6in had to endure 3 hours with his knees crammed into the back of the seat in front. The airport is so small.

Which airport did you land at and which airline did you travel with?

I was on a Britannia flight last summer 9 hours to the Dominican Republic and that was quite bad at times... hopefully the flight to Bulgaria (polodiv) will be much better for me.

re: just back from Pamps

we went with Balkan Holidays and flew from Gatwick on the 18.40 flight. It was 2 hours 40 mins out and 3 hours back, with an hour and a half coach transfer.

Hubby has told me to get off here now and forget about Bulgaria, but I can't I'm hooked, can't wait to go again. We are probably going to go the same week next year and with everyone who was in our ski group. Our instructor said if we email him 10 days before we go he'll make sure we get him again.

My gilfriend and I fly with Balkan Air also - from Manchester

Hooked on here, it is easy to see why, and it sounds so easy to het hooked on Bulgaria too.

We have had our flights changed from Sofia to Polodiv (lack of numbers on the Sofia flight) and there is now a longer coach transfer from airport to our resort of Bansko where we will be staying in the 4 Star Hotel Bansko
