Where's the place to be come night time (apart from bed - sleeping's cheating when there's beer to be drunk!)?
Errrr can't think of anything else but I'm sur there's more....oh yeah, is the wind cold enough up on top to need wear a face mask as well as my silly hat ?
slopes in front of rila had a base of snow from the snow cannons and were very icy down the middle, the nursery part of the same slopes was extremely busy all week with big queues for the three button lifts. The one man chair lift as predicted was totally out of action so that part of the slopes was innaccesible which further added to the congestion.

At the top of the gondola only the first of the three drag lifts was working, the two further on werent operational all week, dont know why, causing massive queues there. When on that section the snow was fantastic, three days of constant snow tues to thurs
The runs down from the gondola I cant comment on too hard for me, but looking down on to them they looked very healthy and these looked like the only places that didnt look busy
snowed for three days solid tues to thurs, monday the gondola was closed to the upper station due to high winds, wed was pretty rough with fine snow blasting your face so I would recommend having the face mask with you.
The buzz bar seemed the only place to be after dark, 2 for 1 drinks from 10 til 12 so the place fills up 1 minute after 10, watch your drinks though had 2 nicked last night.

If you want somewhere to go first call in at the Happy Duck, a three piec Bulgarian band playing,I couldnt praise them more, played requests all evening from Robbie Williams to REM to Santana to Elvis, I may be biased but i do like good music.
Watch the monay change booths on the road between the Samokov & Rila, one rate on a board outside (£1-2.72lev) but inside is another board with a lower rate(2.28lev), guess which one pays out so check before you sign. The one nearest the rila appeared ok I got a better rate than in the hotel
dont know about the pool we just had to show our meal cards to use it but everything else like saunas & massage were charged for so I assume non residents can use them. The bowling alley & pool tables were also charged for, therer is no control on access at the entrance lobby so go & ask.
Dont bother using the retauant ther the food was bland at best , sometimes even warm
Dave
Why o why are ALL of the drag lifts not in operation at the top???
As there seems to be SNOW there, surely they should be open to ease the congestion caused by the closure of the one man chair lift....
at the top there is the baby drag from the restaurants and only the first twin fast drag lift, even my instructor didnt know why the other two werent in operation, saw the piste bashers workinmg in that area , maybe they want to preserve the piste for later who knows but take a good book to read in the queues, including the 4 man chair at peak times
