Ooooh - don't get me started on this topic!

At the risk of being bombarded with insults I am afraid to say that I am rather 'old fashioned' in my views and feel that if we have to abide by laws and cultures in other countries then ours should be abided by here. We seem to spend too much time worrying about 'offending' other religions - who have essentially - moved (of their own choice!) - to Great Britain!
Imagine the scenario if you were to move to, say, a Muslim (or other) country and say that you found mosques or their festivals offensive and wished them to be re-named (oh, and build a Christian church while you are there also). Do you think this would be allowed. Ummm - somehow, I don't think so!! As is muttered all the time - we are simply turning too soft here and I suspect losing all our historical roots and traditions. Quote - we are losing the 'Great' from Great Britain....
There - I've said it now. Sorry if this comes over offensive - it is not intended - I purely like a 'good debate'
I for one am looking forward to CHRISTMAS!
Incidentally on that note - I did actually offend one of my employers last year by typing Xmas (instead of the word in full). They are strongly religious and felt that 'Xmas' was insulting - so you can upset folk in many ways unintended it seems!
Hear, hear Kim. I couldn't agree with you more. I feel that we should try and accomodate other cultures and religions but NOT at the expense of the British traditions and belief systems. As you say, other countries wouldn't allow us to impose our traditions and belief systems on their country so why should we! The sooner the powers that be realize it, the better I reckon!!!
my sentiments exactly! In my son's school they don't have black/white boards either as it may be seen as racialist so they are now wipe boards, it goes on and on.
I agree entirely with Kim we wouldn't get away with it in any other country. Here here!
