last minute change to pirin

as the topic sugests we have just had a hotel chnge from the hotel bansko to the hotel pirin. any comments on this would be very helpful as we go on balkans 2 centre holiday on july 9th ( nice of them to let us know at such short notice!! ).

I hvae read through many of the comments on bansko and hope I am right in thinking it will not be too hard to find somewhere to eat ( taking a fussy 16yr old with us !!!! )

also I am a little bit worried about the building work that is going on ...

The Pirin is fine. Its well situated in the centre of Bansko. The hotel has fairly recently been refurbished and looks more modern and luxurious than the hotel Bansko. We stayed in the Bansko in 2003 and although we enjoyed our stay it was starting to look a bit 'tired'. We only had a meal in the Pirin, we haven't stayed there, but the mehana downstairs was excellent and we wouldn't hesitate to book a stay there.

Don't quote me, but I think the building work will be near the base gondola lift. At least one big hotel is going up there. In theory if you are staying at the Pirin you shouldn't notice much of a problem. You may well have done at the Bansko hotel as that is on the main road to the ski lifts. There are loads of restaurants and I took our 'fussy' 16yr.old this January, and apart from complaints that the breakfast was rubbish he seemed to survive and can't wait to go back for New Year. ...

Feedback about the changes would be appreciated when you get back from your holiday as we go back for 10 days on the 30th. December. Can't wait !!!!!

You don't want to take my advice on anything; what with my illusions of grandure and everything.

And especially as I have never even been to errr whereever you are going...Bansko?

If little fleety can't go ice skating would you allow her to go jousting on her bike on the ice instead?? My brother and I used to do it when we were younger, using broom handles as lances....brilliant fun (if rather painful). My brother and I used to do it when we were younger, using broom handles as lances....brilliant fun (if rather painful). The trick is to build up a decent amount of speed on the grass (NB you need a pond in a field to do this - preferably one that is about 6 inches deep and has thick ice on it) then scoot across the ice towards each other, attempting to stay on the bike, at the same time attempting to knock your opponent off his/hers.

Fantastic. How I ever managed to reach my late 20s in one piece I'll never know...

Hi Wendy,

Just to reitterate Julie's comments. We stayed at the Bansko and were very happy with it but one of the guys in our ski class was in the Pirin and had no complaints at all. We spent a very enjoyable night there and when we go back next year I am planning to book for the Pirin as it just seemed a little bit nicer than the Bansko. It is right in the centre of town so everything is very close.

Foodwise I don't think you will have problems. So many places to eat and drink. Portions are large and the food is of very good quality (better than in the hotels). If your fussy 16 yr old eats meat then he will be spoilt for choice but veges are well catered for as well. If all else fails pizzas are available but i must admit we tried out the local dishes. Salads are excellent. Yoghurt is yum yummy.

Have a great time.

re: last minute change to pirin

Thanks jeannie for taking the time to reply, it looks like balkan holidays have done us a good turn by changing us. The bansko is being refurbished at the mo thats why we had to change, the pirin looks as though it is more suited for us both with location and more to do for the kids. We didn't choose the bansko it just came with the hotel we chose in golden sands as this is a 2 centre holiday. We will let you know how it goes
