learning to ski v board (advice please)

Just wondered if those who have done both found it easier when learning the second one they tried. I have boarded for 4 years and have found it quite difficult at times, hurt myself last week so gave skiing a try only had an hours private lesson but found it incredibly easy. Didnt get to turning did all the walking and balancing and snowplough and used the poma a couple of times. Didnt get to turning did all the walking and balancing and snowplough and used the poma a couple of times. Does anyone with experience think this is usual, that once you have done one the second is easier, or is the stuff I did really easy and the turning makes it harder? My instructor was very encouraging and said I had a natural ability, but I would like to know other peoples experiences before I decide to have more ski lessons, I can't decide if he was just being kind or if I will be better at skiing than boarding. Thanks in advance I need to decide what to do before we book next holiday in a few days.

The passion for both is strong SB and whichever people choose as their favourite is the one they will no doubt recommend.

I have spoken to loads of people on this very subject and the opinions vairy massively. Some say skiing is easier, others say boarding is easier - the debate is never-ending and always will be.

I would suggest you forget thinking about which is easier, and go for the one you enjoy the most. You will never stop learning and no matter how good anybody is they can ...

re: learning to ski v board (advice please)

Thanks for that. I started boarding because I was told it was easier, but now I don't know, the problem is I really enjoyed skiing but then two days later went back on the board and loved that too. When you learnt did you find it easy to turn once you had mastered the standing, moving and snowplough bit? That's the bit I am worried about as it took me ages to turn on a board. And whilst I have your attention tell me a bit about Italy that's where I am thinking of going next! Only asking as ...

Only asking as you gave me great advice on this site a coup,e of years ago when I went to Pamporovo : Very Happy

re: learning to ski v board (advice please)

I would suggest in skiing you master one dicipline per year rather than trying to move forward too fast and learning too much too soon.

Year 1 = Snowploughing
Year 2 = Parallel turns and stopping.
Year 3 = Check turns
Year 4 = More of the same and so on.

Speed will follow once your confidence grows and gradiants should hold no fears for you once you are in complete control of your turns.

It is easier to learn the basics on skis and then more difficult to progress where it is the oposite with snowboarding. Wink

Agree with what Arron has said. The basic of skiing are easier as the stance is more natural but it is harder to master. Snowboarding is the other way round the basics are harder but once you have them down the rest is easy.
