I agree we were lucky but considering i put them onto the fact they were disclosing wrong flight times by quite a large margin with Bulgaria Air and the fact we'd already been changed a couple of times before and had very young children ... but yes we were lucky.
But in acting as they have I have no axe to grind with them whatsoever, they treated us exceptionally well all things considered.

Not sure whether having booked through First Choice (and hence the Tui group I think?) would have held any sway. Am still yet to find anyone who was due on the same flights either so maybe with the BAir flight etc and transfers and there being 11 of us that their profit margins may have been eaten into and therefore maybe it was relatively cash neutral to cancel us, especially if the whole 11of the party accepted the compensation too - maybe it became irrelevant if we went or not!
Interesting. I don't think anyone's intimated that it's 'Balkan's fault' that a flight isn't full. Thing is, this being the fourth change we've had (the other's were all flight changes but from the same airport) and it's far from a minor inconvenience, I'm left wondering if cancelling the whole trip is more sensible than messing about trying to make it work. 'Compensation' for accepting the change doesn't go anywhere near covering additional travel costs and I'm at a bit of a loss. ...

There's still no way of guaranteeing that the Newcastle flight will actually exist in a month is there? Could end up in a worse position then suppose. *shrugs*
Just wondered what anyone else thought.
Yes, Anne, I had thought about driving. Parking is expensive and it's not a journey I'd volunteer to make!
Hi all
I only booked yesterday but am flying from Bristol via East Midlands to Sofia, so added at least an hour 30 mins to the normal flight time - (but still quicker than bussing it to Heathrow from Cardiff). A bit inconvenient but as has been said, if the demands not there, they have to make these business decisions. Rather this than the company go bust. Hopefully , there'll be no changes but I really want to go, so I'd fly via Cairo if neccessary

Hi Kitty- sorry to hear about all your problems!- pretty much sure the Newcastle flight will still be operational as they (Balkan) are the only company to fly to Bulgaria during the winter from Newcastle so usually a good few Geordies on the flight!- hope you get it sorted!
Caroline - our flight with Balkan is departing East Midlands then Stopping at Bristol and the onto to Sofia. They did let us know well in advance and at the moment the return flight is unchanged. Not so bad on the way out but i hope the return journey stays as planned. Flying 21/2/09. Glad to see the weather is taking a turn for the better!
Kitty - Think you are pretty safe with the Newcastle flight as it also goes via Edinburgh. Usually a pretty well used flight from Edinburgh as we are not well served by other flights to Bulgaria - or many other places to be fair!! We are flying to Sofia on the 1 Mar from Edinburgh and have heard nothing from Balkan about flight changes so far. One advantage of living up here through is that we are only an hour away from Glencoe and the other Scottish skiing centres.
