Are there any flat areas on the mussala pathway that would make boarding difficult. I know the bottom run in Pamps has a flat area which skiers can use poles to push when boarders usually have to walk
???
the first part is really good for both ski and board but it does have a lot of long flat areas which can be tiring for skiers never mind boarders but it is still nice run when not crowded with snow ploughers
if its not too busy you can board it...i found only one area that you really slowed down due to an incline...but i managed it a few times without stopping...you just gotta kahuna down it...but as above its usually full of snowploughers zig-zagging..
You have to attack to pathway all the way down to get as far along the few flat bits as you can. This makes it great fun if your of a reasonable standard. If not its hard work. If the resort is busy all the ski newbies will be outside the Rila at the beginning of the week but by the end of the week they are all on the pathway. And I mean all of them. If you are on a board you will have no chance as there will be snakes of newbies strung from one side of the pathway to the other. The instructors do not teach them to leave space for anyone else. Later in the week I suggest you get up early and hit the pathway when its not busy and let your legs burn.
There are some nice bits on the pathway for boarding ... check the skidvd guide to Borovets for some clips of me on it.
Personally, even it if you gun it down there are still places where you'll need to skate and there are parts that I thought were a bit too narrow for boarding properly, you're either running straight or throwing it round to stop. Plus, won't forget the car I met coming the other way in a hurry.
I was a novice skier and our instructor brought us down that and to plough it all the way down was nackering and the flat bits just zapped you more. But like Liza said when your coming down it and experinced boarders and skiers us ploughers do get in the way especially in the tight twists further down the run, but hey we all have to learn somewhere .
