Well James you dont recon Bulgaria let me tell you i done italy switz the one thing that Bulgaria dosnt have is loads of germans thinking they have bought shares in every ski run in what ever resort I have been going to pamps for the past 15 years my 4 girls have had the best tution i could ever ask for who are now in their late teens and mid twentys, never one accident and yes you get what you pay for But value for money you cant beat it.
hi barbara i have skied in italy (sauze)before going to bansko last year, have booked to go to bansko again in feburary for a value for money ski holiday bulgaria will take some beating, as for james i hope he goes back to good old switzerland as stays of this site !
Go for it, bansko is fantastic. W have skiied for about 4-5 weeks and there were plenty of runs to challenge us. The ski road back into town is fanatastic and really finishes off the day nicely. Food is great, wonderful bulgarian specialites, stews, chicken skwers etc and then other places like Pizza etc. The fact is you do not get ripped off like Austria, France etc where you will pay £2.50 for a hot chocolate in a mountain cafe. In Bulgaria expect to pay 50p -75p for hot drinks and on ...

In Bulgaria expect to pay 50p -75p for hot drinks and on an evening two of us ate a 3 course meal with wine for less than £20. Bansko has a wonderful atmosphere too, the old town is beautiful and ok yes there maybe some potholes in the roads and the smellof those wood burning stoves just add to the charm of the place. The Kempinski hotel looks very nnice, we only went in for a coffee to see but looks very luxuirous. Slightly cheaper the Pirin and Perun are meant to be nice too. Hope you try it at least, I'm sure you will love it just as we do!
I know accomodation is important when you are taking children James but banging on about Lux Apartments, Please! Skiing, and the people you meet make your holiday and if you can get the package for a fraction of the cost without the designer outfit cant ski for toffee brigade, then I'm all for Bulgaria.
I am just saying , I am 35 now- and I apprciate the luxuries in life , like a lovely private whirpool overlooking the mountains at sunset etc....Watching at the sun sets behind the matterhorn, with a lovely glass of bubbly- thats all- nothing wrong with that!
Ah! a lovely whirlpool for 2.......Bond and his ego! Will have to book the Sunset trip to the Matterhorn, I've never seen one of those sunset things before. Give me a bar full of skiers/Boarders after a day on the piste (apres skiing, james) anyday!!!!
Your right James Switzerland is the place for you!
sorry but my husband has skied in some of the best resorts around, spent 3 months in italy skiing and many times in france also us and canda. We went to bulgeria Bansko last year and dispite his reservations he had nothing but praise for the place, yes some of the other european ski resorts have better infstructure and longer slopes. but value for money bansko wins hands down, and as for age meaning luxury what a load of bo****ks I go on a ski holiday to ski meet nice people and have a good ...

Barbra you will have a good time go with an open mind and as for the kids private ski instruction is so cheap you could do that and bring them on great. sorry James I enjoy the finer things in life but I also want value for money £100 goes a long way out there a lot longer than a day and I bet your chalet was catered? so that makes one hell of an expensive time!
As Mike , michele and Ellie said why come on a Bulgarian ski forum and then rave on about Switz?
I suspect a wind up on James' behalf. If he is for real he needs booting out.
I am all up for new ideas and trying new places, so I wont slate any other countries until I have tried them.
It is the people that make a holiday not just the place.
James, you sound like you like the finer things in life, and there is nothing wrong with that, just not everyone has your views ...
Nice debate,

James, you sound like you like the finer things in life, and there is nothing wrong with that, just not everyone has your views on life. You will never win any friends with you comments, and as I say a holiday is made by the people your are there with, and at this rate you will never make any friends
cheers all

PS who wants to go onto a switz forum and rave about Bulgaria?
I have just been to Bansko for a few days last week and in addition to cracking food and beer at 35 p a go, found the people to be very helpful and friendly. I stayed in Mont blanc apts and they were spotless, excellently equipped and I could not fault them. I also got chance to look at the kempinski hotel etc and believe me the newer hotels are top class.
Some areas are a bit of a building site but hey the snow will cover all that!
Go for it!!
