new to bansko!

Hi all,can anyone can give us any useful contacts or advice on our christmas trip to Bansko. This is our first time to Bansko although we have been to Pamperova. We need a good ski hire contact and a reliable person for transfer from Sofia to Bansko. Our trip last year to Pamps i felt a little ripped off by everyone trying to help us and all was cashing in on our newness to the place. We are staying at the Victoria Appartments and hope to contact anyone who is also there.

re: new to bansko!

I uses bansko sports for skis /www.banskosport.com and for transfers http://www.motoroads.com/ I find them both to be reliable.

You can get a discount on your pass if you rent from Ullen (they run the lifts too) but as bansko sports are cheaper it works out about the same and Ullens does not open until 08.30 so you cannot get up the piste early and may end up ina queue.

re: new to bansko!

Hi guys, I have been to Pamporovo a few times and for the past couple of years switched to Bansko. I prefer Bansko larger ski area a proper town with loads of little Mehanas to eat in. Try and get down into the old town proper very easy just walk away from the gondola with you back to it for good local food.

As for lift ques these can be a problem at busy times of the year. Also taxi drivers will rip you off so avoid if possible or make sure you agree a price.

re: new to bansko!

Id agree totaly with Dave about Bansko Sports. Have used them for the past 5 years. They are a much smaller and friendlier outfit than Ulen. Ski groups are smaller and more intimate. Equipment quality is grand. Mitko often supplies a naice glass of hot wine as you come off the slopes. Will be back on the 10th January.

When we are not driving down we have used the links on this website for transfer from Sofia to Bansko and have never had a problem with them.

Enjoy your hols

re: new to bansko!

Des / Allison,

Steve C seems to me the man in the know when it comes to transfers and is always happy to help/answer any questions. He's on a few of the postings on the board so you could pick his details up from there.

I'm going over to the Victoria 11th Dec so i will update you on my return.

SD - Most on here would agree that Bansko nightlife is not as good as Borovets .. At the moment. However i can assure you there is still plenty to go at, and i'm sure you won't get bored with number of bars there to frequent. Booze Enjoy !
