Hi
Just wondering how Bulgaria compares to ski resorts of France/Austria.
Planning on going feb06. Am a definite newbie to skiing so will be looking for beginner slopes and good ski school.
It's a great little secret that people are starting to find out about. There are not as many runs, but then as a newbie, you don't need a resort with 100km of runs, 20km of runs will do you.
The instructors all speak fluent English and you'll have ski school for four hours a day for six days. Your best bet is probably Borovets. It's my fourth time there this year, I love it.
To be honest, as a newbie, it is not worth comparing to France/Austria.
You will never be able ski the whole resort in your first week, in France/Austria or Bulgaria.
You will have a blast though, I took a bunch of newbies to Pamp 2 years ago, they loved it, took them (and some more) to Bansko last year and they loved that too.
You will find that you will enjoy the people better in Bg that the other places, and cetainly your bank manager will be more pleased with you.
I've skied around the world and can say that Bulgaria (I've only skied in Bansko) is on a par with other European resorts. The thing you don't have in Bulgaria is the size like the 3 vallies in France for example.
In Bansko, the pistes are very well serviced and the lifts are very modern. More so than a lot of resorts in France, Austria etc etc.
What Bulgaria lacks in resort size it makes up in value for money and the locals are great.
Like all countries and I mean ...

Like all countries and I mean all, UK included. Some food is not nice but on the whole the food is very nice.
Drinks are cheap, lots of things to do if the snow's not so good but for anyone worrying what the snow is like, not only are the lifts good, all of the resorts are very well serviced by snow canons so you should never have to worry about snow.
Hope this helps
Hi there. I agree with everyone ref borovets this is our 7th time there and have made some great friends nick chakolov skis with us every time we go we will be there again on the 21st of Jan so if anyone sees him before then say Hi from Bev and Ken
I went to Pamps last Christmas on my 1st ski hol then returned twice again. Thats 3 times in one season.
It was fantastic. The Bulgarians are the most friendly bunch of nutters that I have ever met. Out of the hotel restaurants the food is fantastic and at a price that leaves you loads of spare cash for
I couldn't have wished for more from the ski instructors whose patience and teaching skills were to be admired.

This Christmas I am going to try Bansko 'cos everybody is raving about it and to try some different ski runs, saying that I still haven't skiied all of the runs in Pamporovo and I would definately consider returning there again.
