hi all
just come back from borovets, my third trip, and not that happy, althought resort was still good and snow best yes, though gondola good on all runs the rila 4 man side is very icy.
what im not happy about was the instructor was not that interested in teaching a group that hard to ski better , but just wanted to find ways of getting his kick backs, making sure we went to the most expensive cafes on the slopes , when we looked at the prices we were alll on the soups and pizzas while he ate free with lumps of chicken and meats, paid for by inflated prices.
He wanted to promote the intructor events and bulgarian nigh out rather tahn making sure we were moving foward .
although not total beginer i was rusty on what i was doing re parlel turns, but he never seemed to want to move on, the last day seemsed to be dedicated to making sure we did a video , so he gould flog it for 30levs, and seemed disapointed when all the group didnt order it!
Thr last night we had a whip round for him, when we handed the envelope to him , he opend it up and counted it out 3 times. He then seemd happy to show racist and sexist jokes to the group on his mobile and dint understand when i was a bit shocked.
Dont get me wrong, i like borovets, i like bulgarians but i was not happy with this instructor who seemed more concerned about him self than moving us foward. i moved foward more when i went solo or members of the group went out on out own.
i recomend borovets to all beginer to internediate, but i suggest you skip luch and go solo for the hour, go solo on the video day, and get up the gondola when it ipens. 8.30
okay off my soap box now
our instructor was superd, from the hotel samojov, very patient, teaching techniques were also excellent, i advance loads from a total novice.
The instructor also took us to the most cafes on the slopes, but they are all inflated prices there and you do need an hour off for lunch to recharge..
if they are getting commission on the groups they take in, good on them, id do it if i was me....and they are only paid something like 85 quid a week anyway...

it does sound like your instructor was slightly arrogant and more for himself than the ski group....but they aren`t all like that........i think you just got unlucky on that one...
not disagreing infact first two years i was happy with instructors, ad happy for the commision they get in cafes but this guy was happy to show his new toys thay his students were giving him, and wasting our time with his games...would stick to my guns next and just ski through lunch , rather than feeding him if i felt he was an instructor was doing the same!!
We came back last Saturday and had a instructor called Chris but from your description it wasn't the same one as you!! Ours was excellant, probably the best we have had so far. We were with the samokov ski school. Where did your instructor come from??
sounds like the instructor the wife had, but not same name so maybe they are twins lol...she did 6 days of lessons and has learnt how to snowplough turn thats it, never even showed her a parallel one lol...i had to laugh at the whole class becuase it was the same for all of em, poor instructor...
yes but 85 pounds a week in bulgaria is like 150 in uk the ski instructors are the lucky ones they have jobs a decent wage by bularian standards and a healthy tip once a week so they do not need the kik backs. i have had same instructor for last three years and he works in uk in summer and bolgaria in winter. if you want to see how cheap bulgaria is get a taxi into samarkov(town) next time you are in borovits there you see real prices at most a third of what we pay in resort.
well we had a great instructor last week, our group were all beginners and by end of week we were skiing down from the top of the gondola station to the bottom of the slope which was fantastic and a few of us managed the slope in front of the rila, so we seemed to get a good one i guess
