ski boots but no skis. Do I need to pay for airline extra baggage.

HI all
Travelling with Balkan Holidays on Balkan Air. we have our own boots but not skis. Never had to pay for extra baggage before but with the Airlines charging for every extra thing these days I am now concerned that when we get to checkin we will only be allowed 1 bag per person. ( plus hand luggage).
Has anyone just come back with Balkan Air, and Did they have a problem?
Also not sure what weight allowance is (for luggage before any of you clever dicks start)

Hi Jackie,

We usually pack our boots in with our hold luggage, then you dont have to worry.

Last year my husband took his boot bag on as hand luggage, but this year were told by Thomas Cook they had to be checked in.

Its prob worth phoning Balkan to check cos all flight operators have different polices.

Just packed my hold luggage. Included are my ski boots & also helmet 19.55kg. in all. Flying with Thompsons/Inghams.

BH Air charge 8GBP per kilo when you are over your personal allowance of 20kgs.

Ski/snowboard bags only 15kgs

Last year I flew with Balkan, their allowance was 20kg for the hold and 5kg for hand luggage. I packed my boots in my case as they weigh just over 5kg- they don't often weigh hand luggage but I didn't want to risk it!

I flew with balkan 3 weeks ago. We put our boots in the luggage as the weight is 20kgs. We then used boot bags to carry any clothes that did not fall in the weight for the baggage checked in.

I will try to get them in suitcase, also have helmet. So I will have to take less clothes, but I always take too many anyway.
I might put all your boots and helmets in 1 suitcase (3 of us) and our clothes between 2 cases.
We have been on many ski holidays and always taken our boots separately without a problem, but I think those days are gone.

Hi,
It al depends on the airport you are flying from, i went with balkan last year and when i tried to clarify with them, all they said was it was upto the check in staff, some airports are better than others, i also had skis and queried the weight allowance, again this varied from airport to airport, some allowed 10 - 12kg others upto 18kg, best bet is to contact the aitport and if they say it is ok get them to email you as confirmation.
