Physically putting ski boots in overhead is dangerous - ie someone opens up and they fall out could easily knock out an adult and potentially kill a child or infant.
I put one boot in one hand luggage so its much lighter and the wife's in the hold.
That said - through airmiles in 2013 we are flyuing BA business class for £80 and that allows 46kg each.... so not really an issue at all this time round.
Might also leave a set of boots out in Bansko too (in the apt) saves the hassle ...
