re:solo skier... rila or samokov, 31 Jan or 14th march
Hi Laura
I've been going to Boro for the last 8 years, most of the time in March. As a solo traveller I would recommend going for your January dates, by 14th Marc Balkan are the only tour operators working in Boro so it will be very quiet in the evening.
I really urge you to do the ski package with Balkan as you will find these lessons are a great way to meet people. They are nothing like lessons I've had in other countries, very relaxed, you have 2 hours in the morning, then all go ...

I really urge you to do the ski package with Balkan as you will find these lessons are a great way to meet people. They are nothing like lessons I've had in other countries, very relaxed, you have 2 hours in the morning, then all go for lunch and another 2 hours in the afternoon. All the ski groups get to know each other through the instructors.
I've stayed in both hotels, not much between them, but if you stay at Samakov you have their own ski school, rather than Borosport, which you will have at the Rila and they are the biggest ski school in resort. I prefer the Rila, great pool and spa and not as oppressive as the Samakov.

Hi Laura, I did the same a few years ago and ventured to Boro on my own, did the lessons and I'm experienced as a way to meet people. Don't join a beginners group, join an intermediate as you will improve. You can do your own thing after lunchtime, or just do a few days with them. Do head to Bobbys bar your 1st night as you will always find someone who will be at your level and be happy to ski with you. I've since home back happily on my own and with friends, and am out on my own Feb again ...

Have a ball!!

To be honest, 1 week and ten hours really isn't a lot of skiing. I agree with Hilly. Learning in Borovets will not be like other parts of Europe. If you can ski to some level you will be taken all over the resort and do all of the runs in your ability range and the ability level that you get to by the weeks end. It will be difficult and fairly dangerous for you to get to the next level by yourself and as a bonus you will meet more people in a class. 4hrs per day usually means starting around ...

If you can ski to some level you will be taken all over the resort and do all of the runs in your ability range and the ability level that you get to by the weeks end. It will be difficult and fairly dangerous for you to get to the next level by yourself and as a bonus you will meet more people in a class. 4hrs per day usually means starting around 9.30/10 (except the first day if a Sunday) and skiing with your class until about 3 ish, stopping for a short break mid morning and having lunch with the whole class and the instructor. You will if you have the energy have approx. 1hr to yourself on the slopes and then again after 5pm if you get a pass and fancy night skiing. 4 hours is all day. Trust me, Borovets is a very social place. This will be my 14th year here and despite my reasonable skiing ability I tend to tag along with a class rather than ski by myself. I know the instructor well and can often be skiing with people who I have skid with previously. Likewsie my partner and sons are all in different classes and they meet many of the same people each year albeit in a more advanced class.
I think often when you are in a class it's a few hours in the morning or a few in the afternoon, you may never get to see who you are skiing with. In Borovets unless they are unsociable, you will get to see your classmates without hats and goggles.
